Descriptive Writing Planning Sheet

Look carefully at your picture. Using the steps below, plan your descriptive writing.

1. Looking at your picture, jot down some simple words to describe what you see, touch, hear, taste or smell if you were in the scene.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Now, add adjectives, adverbs or powerful verbs to describe each word. 3. Use your notes to create a piece of descriptive writing. Remember to use full sentences, including correct punctuation, and try to use a mixture of simple, compound and complex sentences. Remember to use a variety of sentence openers like we have practised in class.

4. When you have finished your piece, read it carefully to make sure it makes sense. Use a dictionary to check your spellings and edit your piece of work.
