I think I am like a lot of people who can’t stand to see children suffer through serious illness. My wife and I work with the Rally Foundation, which raises money to fund research to combat childhood cancer.

The benefits of a free market economy to society. I have been using it to get my kids to sleep for years!

If you were to tell one person "thank you" for helping you become the person you are today, who would it be and why?

I would thank my mother, and I often do. My father passed away when I was 14. My mother was an amazing influence in keeping me focused on being a person with integrity and on creating a better future while not letting me be soft or lazy when I often wanted to be.

I love to spend time outside, no matter if its hiking, gardening, practicing tennis or golf, playing with my dog Caico (a rescue from the islands of Turks and Caicos), or just sitting outside listening to all types of music.

Who inspires you and why?

My mother. She was a pioneer in intermodal transportation while raising 3 children and yet never missed one of my sporting events. She wasn’t afraid to take on something new, and while she lost her battle with cancer, she handled it with such dignity, grace and courage.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?

To stop elderly abuse and neglect.

How do you recharge at the end of the day?

Whether at the beginning, middle or end of the day, I find that exercise helps clear my mind and puts everything in perspective. It’s also good to burn off the working lunches and business dinners!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever heard?

Plato said, “Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.” I find that this is useful advice for both interpersonal and business communications. It reminds me that we are all humans, and therefore complex creatures. It’s important to relate to people on an emotional level.

If you were to tell one person "thank you" for helping you become the person you are today, who would it be and why?

I suppose I’d thank my mother for helping me to become the person I am. Growing up, she gave me lots of freedom, but also was there if I needed anything. This allowed me to think and solve problems on my own but have someone to go to for advice and support when required. As it turns out, this type of structure is good advice for leadership in general.

Barriers that control the migration of aggressive chemicals, container distortion, product loss, and odor emission are available in the marketplace, but most require multiple layers or secondary chemical treatments such as fluorination.

CCC’s customers needed bottles made with only one layer for smaller annual quantities and without the added costs or limitations of the alternatives.

The SolutionCCC searched for a solution through various organizations and ultimately partnered with Barrier Plastics to utilize their Baritainer® product. Working together, we developed special processing and testing techniques to create a bottle that met CCC’s high standards and Always Made Right® commitment.

The ResultsThe result was a monolayer container that is lightweight, recyclable, impact resistant, pliable, and made in just one stage with traditional blow molding equipment.

This innovative product is not only economical but is also safe for a wide range of solvent-based liquids. It even provides flavor and aroma retention and an effective oxygen barrier to support longer shelf-life, which is many times more effective than standard HDPE. Additionally, Baritainer® provides custom barrier protection as the Quoral® additive level can be adjusted to meet a product’s barrier needs.

Johnson Brothers’ fuel injection bottle currently uses Baritainer®. Be sure to look for it in the automotive aisle!

The catch was that the package needed to be microwaved multiple times, with less and less product in the container as it was used. On top of that, it needed to be able to withstand temperatures on the other end of the spectrum when it was placed into the refrigerator.

The SolutionCCC’s Studio PKGTM designed a specialized bottle that could be heated, cooled, and reheated without failure. Proprietary designs for the handle and closure allowed the bottle to withstand the wide temperature fluctuations, maintaining the product’s integrity.

The ResultsThe innovative bottle underwent testing that provided the customer, and ultimately consumers, precise instructions on how long to heat the product given the amount left in the packaging. Today, consumers can enjoy fresh, warm syrup without the hazards of burning their fingers on a hot handle or finding syrup splattered all over the microwave because of a packaging failure.

Copy: The ChallengeCustomers became so accustomed to the dairy square, a versatile bottle used for both dairy and water packaging, becauseit hadn’t changed much in the past 20 years. CCC’s innovative designers at Studio PKGTM took it upon themselves to challenge the status quo.

The SolutionOur team partnered with Milacron® Uniloy®to create Dura-Lite®, a patented design created with lightweighting, performance, and fill line/supply chain compatibility at the forefront of our designers’ minds. The innovation team at CCC’s Studio PKGTM even had the foresight to make the lightweighting technology applicable in different packaging configurations and sizes to meet the needs of various industries.

The ResultsMeasuring at the same height and base footprint as standard designs, Dura-Lite® containers run on standard fill line equipment with minimal modifications despite a 15 to 20% reduction in weight. With this lower resin weight, we are able to cut customers’ costs and reduce their environmental impact while maintaining or improving strength and performance. Not only does the Dura-Lite® design mesh well with existing fill line equipment, but it also still meets the physical demands of the customer’s supply chain as well as expectations consumers hold for functionality and aesthetics.

Even though this collaboration focused on the dairy business initially, Dura-Lite® now also serves the water, food, beverage, health and beauty, household chemical, specialty chemical, and automotive industries.

Copy: The ChallengeSeveral customers approached CCC to produce a stackable caseless dairy square that would integrate with a tray system, as they found it to be well-suited to their stores’ needs.

The SolutionCCC’s Dura-Lite® dairy gallon was designed to have a greater top load strength despite having less gram weight than traditional packaging. CCC’s Studio PKGTM began work on a Dura-Lite® caseless option, hoping to further improve top load strength to achieve our customers’ desired performance and aesthetic requirements. Studio PKGTM also worked with tray makers to design the bottles to fit their tray systems.

The ResultsCollaborating with our customers and tray makers resulted in a highly stackable caseless system that not only performed well but provided better shelf appeal and an easier customer interaction in stores.

Case Studies – Organic Valley®Page Headline: Organic Valley®

Copy: The ChallengeOrganic Valley® collaborated with CCC to produce a 64-ouncez bottle that would relaunch their brand from traditional cartons into an HDPE container. Organic Valley® asked that the new bottles maintained the branding and messaging space cartons provided on grocery store shelves.

The SolutionCCC’s Studio PKGTM designers and engineers worked with Organic Valley® to ensure that the bottle being produced met their aesthetic and fill line requirements. The collaboration led to multiple versions of the design before a final bottle was selected for testing. As labeling and visual appeal were important aspects of this project, multiple types and applications were trialed until a solution was discovered.

The ResultsThe collaborative work between Studio PKGTM and Organic Valley® paid off with a unique 64-ounce HDPE bottle that maximized branding and messaging space and offered consumers an easy to grip bottle. This impactful new packaging featured a full shrink sleeve that made the bottle pop off the shelf and distinguished the brand among the sea of competitor’s cartons.
