Dear Choir members and others

This is my report on the fundraising results of the TCC concerts June 9 and 10,

Firstly - the bottom line:We raised $20,077 in total , $5,115 was for the Honoring Fund.

Well done everyone.  As always it was a joint and well done effort.

We would like to thank all of the choir members who worked very hard at selling tickets to friends and associates, as well as the stores who carried the tickets to sell,   Munro's Book,   Ivy's Books,  James Bay Coffee and Books and Dig This (Broadmead).

This money will go a long way toward getting things done in Mozambique, in particular the solar panels for the distance education program that will provide a teaching/learning opportunity for high school students who won't have to leave home to take classes and graduate.

It was a treat to sing with Coco Love Alcorn, and I think our audience really loved her and got to sing with her more than any previous Guest Artist.

We wish you a great summer and look forward to seeing you all again for the fall session.  (Sessions start the week of Sept 18 - thru Thursday Dec 14 with a 3 week break over the holidays then begin again the week of Jan 8 thru the week of Jan 29th with concerts on Feb 2 ,3, 2018

An Appreciation

What an amazing and uplifting time we all had together! I am still basking in the lovely after-feelings from the concert and all the wonderful activity that surrounded it. Thank you so much for everything that you brought – your voices and your spirits - to a concert that was remarkable!

I am still slowly sifting through the amazing cards that you gave me and am touched by everything that you have said. I read them with a profound gratitude, as well as a sincere appreciation of what we have all built together. Thank you.

For my own part, my wife Lynne and I are off this summer to Europe, where we will be doing some traveling around, and also finishing our trip with a week-long stay in Barcelona where we will be attending an international choral symposium. You can read about it by clicking here. http://www.wscm11.cat/home

I wish everyone a wonderful and restful summer. See you in the fall!

Denis

This is why GHCommunity the world needs music more than ever. Nothing brings together people of different faiths, creeds, cultures, nationalities, walks of life like music. We could all learn a thing or two from this choir.

This was an absolute delight at our Gettin Higher Choir concert last night.. Our incredibly talented and sweet guest performer, Coco Love Alcorn, performing with accompaniment by one of our amazing directors, Denis Donnelly, and dance by one of our wonderful choristers, Kevin McGinn. A beautiful video.

Newsletter:Summer Community Submissions

There are no more Newsletters until the beginning of September but there may be, from time to time, GHC News & Business “Special Announcements” such as this one. With most of those specials I will include whatever submissions I have on hand (possibly just in the order received).

As with the newsletter:

Dated Events will be repeated in such specials automatically until their date has passed. Any other items that you want repeated must be re-submitted once they appear in one of these special announcements.

In order to keep my volunteer work in providing this extra summer service to a minimum please make sure that any item you send conforms to the newsletter submission guidelines specified on our site’s “Using Our Newsletters” page. If you haven’t visited that page lately please review it before you send your first summer submission.

Please submit your items to: [email protected] .There are no guarantees when, or even if, such special announcements will go out so any items you submit are on “standby” only.

Opportunities to Sing

The Victoria Conservatory of Music’s3rd Summer Choral Academy

Kathryn Whitney, Kathleen Allan, and Brian Wismath, will be the faculty members this year and we're thrilled to

be offering a full-time and part-time stream for potential students.

August 5th-12th

This academy is an excellent opportunity for singers to keep singing during the summer, to build new choral

singing skills (including sight-reading) and to experience fun in meeting new people and exploring new repertoire.

Community NetworkingMy CCLT Campaign!

I've been accepted into the Community Choir Leadership training course taking place in the fall, facilitated by Siobhan and Denis.

Unfortunately, I'm between jobs right now and lacking the financial means to pay completely on my own, but I would really like to take this course in order to spread Siobhan and Denis' message of music and community, and hoping eventually to start a small offshoot choir.

Denis and Siobhan are my inspirations and I hope that I won't have to drop out. If you could help me I'd be forever grateful.

Here is a link to my Go Fund Me page.

Thank you for both your time and support.
