Kyte Learning Workshop

I Introduction

This year, the Snohomish Technology Department introduced Kyte Learning to our staff. Kyte Learning has 22 pages of professional development (PD) courses currently listed on its site. These courses all have clock hours attached to them, they are self-paced lessons, and you can take these courses whenever you want. This is an easy way for you to advance your technology skills throughout the year without having to wait for a workshop to be offered by the District.

Earlier this school year, Jack Brenchley sent out a technology survey to determine what technology PD workshops GPHS would like to take this year. The top four PD requests for staff were SMART Board and Notebook (SMART Lab games, Exchange), Canvas Speedgrader and Gradebook, Canvas Quizzes, and Canvas Basics (Create Home pages, Creating links, Adding assignments…). All four of these PD requests can be found on Kyte Learning.

Today, you are going to learn how to access Kyte Learning and how to search for an online PD course.

II Accessing Kyte Learning

Click on your HelloID shortcut on your computer desktop. From the HelloID window click on the KyteLearning.com box.

This will take you to the Kyte Learning sign-in page. If you haven’t already set up your account please do so at the time. Your username should be your school email. Otherwise, enter your school email and password, and click on the Beam Me Up button.

Once you are in the Kyte Learning home page you have several links to access PD workshops. You can click on the link to PD workshops you have In Progress. Click on Assigned to Me, or you can view your Completed workshops. If this is your first time using Kyte Learning then click on Show me the Library.

II Searching for a PD workshop

You can search the Kyte Learning Library many ways to locate the workshop for you.

You can browse the courses page by page, and organize these pages either by A-Z or Z-A.

Or you can view the courses within their Collections. Examples of collections include Apple workshops, Microsoft workshops, and Classroom Management workshops.

Or, you can select workshops by courses created by My District employees. Currently, we have only three courses created by teachers in our District.

Or, you can select courses based on the Creator of the course.

Or, you can search for the All Types of courses. Currently, these courses are listed under two types: Implementation and Tutorial.

Lastly, if you know the titles of courses you can search for courses by typing in the name of course in the search window. For today’s example, we will conduct a search for Canvas courses. As you type in the word Canvas all the courses with the word Canvas will automatically pop up.

Today, we will View the Canvas LMS course. The course Overview gives you the number of Credit Hours you can earn, the Course Duration, About this course, Objective of the course, and a Course Syllabus. If you click on the downward facing carrots for each syllabus section it will tell you what will be discussed in each section. What the image below doesn’t show you is there are 16 sections to this course which include setting up assignments, creating a quiz or survey, and using Gradebook and Speedgrader.

If this is a course you want to take you can Bookmark it or click on the Start Course button. Now, spend the rest of your time in this workshop selecting the PD courses you want to take this year. Have fun. If you need help I’ll be here to answer your questions.
