Edmodo Tutorial

GETTING STARTED

Step One: Begin by going to the website: www.edmodo.com

Step Two: Create an account for yourself. Because you will be setting this up for your own classroom, you will have to select the button “I’m a Teacher”. This website has the option for parents and students to create an account of their own as well.

- Once your account has been created and verified, you will be brought to your home page that looks as follows:

Step Three: Make it easy for people to find you on Edmodo!

Click “Profile” on the top right hand corner where you can begin to personalize your page. At the top of your screen, you will see

You want to create your personal url for your profile, create something that is obvious and easy for people, such as parents to find.

Step Four: In the space provided, share something about yourself. Its great to let those visiting your page for the first time, know a little bit more about you to get a better idea of how you approach learning.

- Once you have written something about yourself and are happy with it, press the Save button to ensure your changes will be added to your profile.

PERSONALIZING YOUR PROFILETo add a Profile Picture:

1. Go to Account in the top right hand corner2. Click Settings3. From there you can choose to upload a picture you have saved on your

computer, or pick one of the images provided

Notifications:You can choose to have notifications sent to you in text messages to receive them anywhere, or sent to your email. Fill in your personal preferences (phone number or email address)* Make sure to hit Save Personal Info so the changes appear on your Profile

MANAGING STUDENTSCreating a group:

Along the left hand side of your profile there is the option to “Join” or “Create” a group.

To start off, you will be looking to “Create” your own group that you can add your students to.

You will then follow the steps in creating your new group; picking the grade, subject, etc. After you have filled in the information, you will be given a code:

This code is going to be given to your students or their parents so they can access the group from their personal accounts.

- You are free to create as many groups as you like, for different assignments, subjects, however you choose to organize it!

POSTING AN ASSIGNMENT:Along the left hand side, you will see there is an option called “Assignments” if you click on that link, you will be brought to the following:

This will lead you through the steps you have to take in order to post an assignment directly to the page.

a) Give the assignment a title. Ex) Language Arts Reading Log and provide a brief description of the assignment.

b) Click on Attach, and select the format of the attachment. This will allow you to search your computer. Once you have located the document you wish to attach, click on it and it will show up in this section.

c) Next, select a due date for the assignment.

d) Pick recipients from the groups you have created to receive the assignment and lastly click Send.

e) The assignment will now appear under the Assignment tab, and its due date is automatically saved to your Calendar.

POSTING GRADES:If you notice the Grades tab at the top center of the page, this is where you can post grades for assignments, or quizzes for the different groups you have created to view.

1. Select the group the grade is for2. Hit the Add Grade button3. Fill out the information- Grade Title, Total4. And then click Add Grade at the bottom of the box and it will show up!

USING THE LIBRARY TAB:This section is a great way for you to organize the resources you are using, and provide parents with resources they can read with their kids and home that align with what they are doing in class! It allows you to attach links that will make it easy for everyone to stay connected and learn from wherever they are.

1. Go into the Calendar section that appears at the top of the page2. The Calendar will appear blank, to add things you must start by selecting the

date you want3. The following box will appear:

4. Fill in the information and hit Create5. The events will now show up on your Calendar!

6. The events will now remain in the calendar and the groups that have been linked to them will receive reminders on that date.

INVITE OTHERS TO YOUR EDMODO PAGE!Inviting other teachers:

1. To invite other teachers to view your page, go to the Account section located at the top right hand corner and click Invite Teachers

2. Type in their email address and send the invite!

Inviting Parents:To get parents onto Edmodo, you will need to provide them with a class code. This will help to keep the website secure and ensure only those you want to view your page can!Once given the code, the parents will be prompted to put it in on the first page at www.edmodo.com, in the Parent section.
