Theme: Competition Among Nations (do you have a book page 252)

Summary: European nations competed for colonies, built bigger navies and claimed provinces belonging to other nations. This led to friction between the nations.

Question: How did European nations challenge each other?

Answer: They competed for colonies. They tried to build up bigger navies and armies then their neighbors.

Theme: Alliances led to war (do you have a book page 253)

Summary: Competing European nations formed two major alliances to protect themselves. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife of Austria-Hungary started the chain reaction of events that led war.
