Hello Camp McCumber Family,I am pleased to announce that, despite the difficult decision not to come

together for Lions Diabetes Camp this year, we will be holding “Virtual Camp McCumber 2020” from Sunday, June 21 through Saturday, June 27. Our leadership team is aware that camp is often one of the highlights of the year for many of our campers, as well as our volunteers, so we knew we needed to find a way to engage with one another despite the obstacles this year has thrown our way.

Although we are informing everyone of this virtual camp via email, we have decided to utilize Facebook as the platform for our virtual camp going forward. We have a private group on Facebook, “Camp McCumber Type 1 Diabetes Camp,” and, if you are not already a member, I encourage you to request to join before camp begins on Sunday, June 21. All additional updates will be posted to that page, and you can expect a rundown of our plan for the week on Sunday, June 21. We are asking everyone to help come up with socially distant activity ideas for the week. Please feel free to comment on the post that you will find on the Facebook group page or respond to this email with ideas.

In addition, we feel that camp would not be camp without t-shirts! We have put together a design, and will mail shirts to any campers, counselors, medical staff, or family members, who are interested. If you would like to receive a shirt please respond to this email with your shirt size (or sizes if ordering more than one shirt) and mailing address. Please do not forget to specify adult or child sizes in your email. The deadline to order shirts will be 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 10. This is a hard deadline as our goal is to have shirts made and sent in time to make it to everyone by the end of the week of camp. Our cost for production and postage of shirts will be about $15. If you are able to cover some of the cost of your shirt, please Venmo your donation to @MccumberT1DMShirtFund. If you are not comfortable using Venmo, but would like to donate, please feel free to email me for other options. Our goal is to provide a shirt to everyone who is interested, regardless of their ability to pay, so if you would like to help cover the cost of someone who cannot afford a shirt, you are welcome to donate a little extra.

Although this upcoming week of camp will look different than our usual camp, we are so excited to provide this fun alternative for our campers and volunteers!
