A chat with the Gaffers…

Hi all,

Welcome to the final edition of the green army fanzine for this season.

Since the last one I'm afraid there's not a massive amount to report back on regarding on the field action due to this shocking British weather!! In the games we have played we seemed to have been a bit inconsistent in the cups but pretty solid in the league so on a whole we're very happy with how the season has gone especially with the amount of changes that we have made pre season and we have been really impressed with the amount of reserve team players who have made the step up in to the first team and not looked out of place and it puts the club in a promising position for the next few years especially with a lot of us from the league winning side a few years ago starting to age now and can't get across the pitch like we used to! Haha! For the last month of the season we're going to be playing Tuesday's, Thursday's and Saturday's so we hope everyone stays fit and committed as the league title is still within reach! We would like to take this opportunity to let the players know we will be stepping down from managing it next season due to other commitments and mainly to concentrate on just playing but we have enjoyed giving it ago and it's a shame the season has been so stop start because of the weather, so we would like to thank all the players for their efforts so far this season and we are working on things with Matty to make sure the club is in good hands for next season and the club carries on moving forward! It's a great club and we're proud to be part of it!

We’d also like to say thank you to Spiceball Leisure Centre, with a special mention to Tina, Angie, Sindy, Graham and Dave for the winter training sessions they put on for us. Again we would like to say a massive thank you to all our sponsors this season, and everyone who helps make the club tick, Matty, Tony Ad, Mark Ad, Baggy, Gib, Larry, Tony C, Mark F and Ade. All your hard work is appreciated by all. The futures bright, the future's green and white!!

One Love

Hirons & Esso

From the Secretary…

No recent weddings to report, but sadly several people with a connection to the football club did attend Pauline Swain’s funeral. I think Charles and his family appreciated our attempts to provide some words of comfort following their sudden and very sad loss.

It’s pleasing to record that Esso became a father recently. Best wishes to both parents and the new addition – I hear they’re all doing well!

As far as football is concerned, many of you will be aware that Adderbury Park complained that Riverside included a player who was not named on the team sheet in the Charity Cup game between us on 5th January. It transpired that the player concerned was not eligible to play for Riverside anyway.

However, the new, quicker(!) FA disciplinary procedure took five weeks to decide what should be done, and then Riverside had two more weeks to appeal the decision. Although we were finally reinstated into the competition, the Semi Final between Eynsham and Adderbury Park did not take place until 9th March. We lost 1-0.

As Easter approaches, we have had a lot of games postponed due to the dreadful weather we have had in recent weeks. As I write this, our First Team still have 16 league games to play, nine of them away from home, whilst the Reserve team have 5 league games to fit in. As soon as British Summer Time starts, we can expect mid-week fixtures, as well as Saturday games to cope with. We may also see two fixtures (first team and reserve team) played at Adderbury on the same day, so that we can get all the games in!

Let’s hope the weather improves……………………..

Enjoy your football!

Tony

APFC Cribs…A special feature giving everyone a special insight into John Danby’s new crib aka... his caravan!

After the popular insight into Dave Addisons mansion we delve into the home of Mr Glass Ankles himself John Danby.

Due to his lengthy time spent on the treatment table and also the fact he’s never settled in one place, tying the boy down to an interview has been somewhat troublesome!

However it’s only taken a couple of months to get you the insight you’ve all been waiting for… the sneak preview of his new glamour crib!

We finally managed to get hold of Danby when he unfortunately got a puncture to his tyre, whilst on route to Dover to catch up with the rest of his touring Cirque Du Soleil tea.

Stevie Hirons enjoyed a cuppa, a chat and a tour around Danby’s crib, as Danby made him feel at home. They chatted about life on the road and Danby’s new Cirque Du Soleil show and if his glass ankles would be up to the task.

Captains Corner…An update from Gib…

There has been a lot of stuff going on in the last few months! Firstly a massive congratulations to Mark and Leeza on the arrival of Jack.

It’s been a hard last few months with results not all going our way. We have had Esso and Dave scoring wonder-goals which we have all been told about a million times Lol!!

The league where we are still in a strong position to push hard for the top spot! We have had some fantastic player performances with Smithy and Smitt being some of the stand out players.

The bad stuff is the work rate as a team has been disappointing at times. We need to work hard for each other and we will soon be back to winning ways.

Now the rubbish weather is hopefully out the way we can pull a strong winning run together. Let’s kick start this now and get some more points on the board!

Adderbury Park Football Club History

Football has been played at Adderbury for many years, the club as people presently know it was reformed in the 1970’s by Larry Hicks. For many years Adderbury played in the local Banbury & District league until in the early 90’s they merged with AP sports and the club became known as Adderbury Park Football Club.

The club was then entered into the Oxfordshire Senior League where it enjoyed a lot of success throughout the following years until we had a brief spell in the Hellenic league for three seasons, before eventually being relegated in the 2004/2005 season back into the Oxfordshire Senior league.

Since then the club has had to rebuild from top to bottom with only 3 players remaining from our days in the Hellenic league, Dave Bagnall and Tony Addison took over the running of the first team in 2005/2006 and have made great progress culminating in five cup final appearances and winning the senior league premier division in 2010.

Green All Over the Land…Rafa Essex…

It's been an eventful time since the last publication. Some of the squad have gone bankrupt at the races, some have taken savage injury blows to their hands and feet in the name of dedication to the cause, but the most sensational piece of news was that of Rafa Essex, who has become a father to a beautiful baby boy Jack.

In honour of this event we thought we could look at some of the highlights of Mark's youth:

Aged 3: Parents voice concern at his Barbie doll 'habit' and tendency to like tying his hair in pigtails.

Aged 5: Starts school. Immediately becomes known throughout Kings Sutton primary as a boy not to be trifled with. Rules the school with such an iron rod teachers go to school in fear of 'that boy with the shiny full set of teeth.'

Aged 7: Starts to develop a reputation as a precocious football talent. Makes his debut for the Sutton All-Stars and scores a brace, both from corners. Sent off in stoppage time after a bloody altercation with 3 parents who told him to 'get back and defend.' One of the fathers involved in the ugly scenes still walks with a limp. Essex unscathed and approached by various boxing scouts but decides to focus on football career.

Aged 8: Caught playing with Barbie Dolls at school. After being warned by parents it’s the Dolls or the beautiful game decides to commit fully to football.

Aged 9: Has first shave. By his next birthday the boy is shaving daily, and flossing his teeth every 5 hours.

Aged 10: Becomes a local legend after a spectacular coaching session down the three tuns on the offside rule. The female pensioners present recall fondly a magnificent speech about the effectiveness of Arsenals back four, but raise doubts about whether it’s healthy for a child to be necking Stella at such an age.

Aged 12: Secondary school - Reign of terror continues as dinner ladies and teachers alike are bullied into submission. Mysterious disappearance of a child in the same tutor who told Mr Essex, Cantona was a better player than Paul Furlong, much to Marks fierce disagreement.

Aged 14: Develops a fondness for crabbing. Awkward mix up when local sexual health clinic sends literature to his home address, after Essex tries to 'do something about his crabs.'

Aged 16: Transferred to the Brackley Jaffas, alongside luminaries Hirons and Hemblen, his two henchmen at school. Begins to enforce his brutal methods on the pitch and acquires the nickname 'the smiling assassin' after always flashing his trademark glittering smile, whilst going in with some brutal challenges. The team is successful and Essex becomes a local hero and target for wannabe wags and karate clubs alike.

Aged 18: Football career is now in full throttle, and addictions to alcohol, cigars, fast cars and Miss Worlds draw comparisons with a young George Best.

Early 20's: Big money transfers to Chelsea and Real Oviedo. The Essex empire now covering vast ground and local mafia networks all running scared of the smiling assassin. Decides to try his hand at a musical career but his grizzly harmonies are not suited to dulcet boyband tunes and he's asked to leave Blue, and replaced with Lee Ryan.

Mid 20's: Transfers back to his home and plays with various local teams, sometimes simultaneously, much to the dismay of the FA. Warned he can only play for one team at a time, but Essex retaliates with memorable speech at FA HQ finishing with 'I will find you. And I will kill you.'

FA relents and gives Mark the freedom of Oxfordshire.

Late 20's: Now a responsible adult Essex is passing on his wisdom to young aspiring talent and teaching kids how to play the beautiful game too.   Attends a coaching course run by his hero Ray Wilkins, and gets numerous qualifications. Scandal though when tabloid newspaper reveals his badges weren't earned officially, and publishes photographic evidence of Essex performing various wrestling manoeuvres on Wilkins. After big Ray, in fear for his life, backs up Marks story it was just 'play fighting' the coaching badges are allowed to stand.

30's: Now fully qualified takes over the running of local all star outfit 'Adderbury Park.' Introduction of continental methods at training and a healthy regime of lager and crabbing. Rumoured to be on the FA Shortlist to replace doddering pensioner running the national side, but Essex fully committed to his roles as a responsible parent and local Mafia Don.

The writer of this article takes no responsibility for the contents within and should he mysteriously vanish and his corpse end up located by crabbers in Swanage would like to apologise profusely. And congratulate the big smiling grizzly bear on becoming a father on behalf of everybody at AP.

Well done mate :-)

APFC Look-a-likes…Here we bring you the top 3 APFC look-a-likes, I’d think about signing up to an agency boys… honestly!

Mr Mark Farrow… or is it Frankie Cocozza?!

Kyle is a double for Peter Crouch… or maybe if you look really hard…Joe Hart?!

Then we have Dan Atkins… or should we say… Neil Lennon?!

Rumour Mill…Seeney Rumours Refuse to go away…Adderbury Park FC today released another statement regarding the future of balding maestro David Seeney.

AP officials can confirm David Seeney is still here… he is currently loitering in the Reserves so don’t panic people, he’s still here.

Seeney is going as strong as ever on his new diet of Haggis and Whiskey (He has a Scottish girlfriend) and this seems to have done the trick for the revitalized 52 year old.

Rumours were also rife that after starring in the blockbuster Lord of the Rings films and the Jungle Book Seeney may go back to acting, but never fear Seeney’s STILL here!

Gibb’s Sports Corner…It's been a strange season for Adderburys version of Steve Howey, Mr James Gibbard.

He's found it such a doddle being a titanic centre half, the big fella has turned his hand to various other sports... With varied levels of success.

The most harrowing and humiliating experience for Mr Gibbard has been his antics on the badminton court. Rumours were rife he was regularly playing the world famous racquet sport, though it appears Mr Gibbard had kept it on the low-key.

When we investigated his antics on court it's easy to identify why...

For those of you that don't know, Gibbo has been playing a girl every week. And getting spanked. Yes, that's correct readers, getting spanked at badminton, by a girl. Not ideal.

It appears enough humiliation was enough, so in order to regain some self respect, Mr Gibbard approached Steve Hirons, who was nursing a severe ankle injury for a game. Knowing full well that with just one operational foot, success would surely follow Gibb was heard to be rubbing his hands with glee at finally getting a victory on the badminton court. He winked at fans on the way onto court and was offering post-victory champagne and autographs.

However even with just one foot Hirons emerged triumphant, giving a badminton masterclass that left poor Gibb wondering where his badminton misery will end. Sobbing was heard in the Spiceball changing rooms for some time after and he left the sports centre with his tail film between his legs.

Evidently the moral of the story is that, Gibbo needs to stick to football.

Unless anyone fancies an easy game on court???

An Update on the Ressies…

In the new year of 2013 our first test came in a local derby away to Middleton Cheney. We unfortunately lost the game 1-0 after Ady way missing several good chances early on (shock). The following week we traveled away to Marston saints and having gone 1-0 down early on we then started to get into the game and it wasn't long before Charlie Meredith scored a very good goal from the edge of the box to get us back to level terms before half time. In the second half we dominated the game and went on to win the game 3-1 after Tom green rounded the keeper and Kyle Forbes scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

After a good win we traveled away again to Bletchingdon in the cup who had beat us 4-1 earlier in the season and after a really close competitive game on a terrible pitch a lucky goal gave Bletchingdon a 1-0 win and knocked us out of the cup as a result.

Then we had a home fixture against OUP reserves and eventually came out 1-0 winners with Ady Way getting his first goal of the season from a yard after scuffing it and it somehow found its way in, they all count. Yarnton were our next opponents and having comfortably beating them 5-1 earlier in the season we turned up full of confidence and started well taking a 4-0 lead in the first half hour through goals from John Danby, 2 from Kyle Forbes and a own goal which Louis Winkworth has tried to claim but defiantly an OG. Ash was then sent off for hitting a Yarnton player with his hand bag which also resulted in there player being sent off for trying to cuddle ash. They were later reduced to 9 men and 3 more goals from Danby, josh Conheeney and Dan made it a comfortable 7-0 victory.

Last time out we came up against a strong Garsington side and lost the game within the first half an hour after going 4-0 down. Ash scored an early penalty in the second half but we went on to lose 5-1.

Lets finish the season strongly boys.

Reserve Team Player Profiles…Dean Horton (goalkeeper)Season Sponsor - J F Horton & Sons ElectricalDean is a very good shot stopper and talks throughout the game. Having only joined in the summer Dean has established himself as the reserve team first choice as we couldn't find anybody else.

Josh Conheeney (right back/ right midfield)When Josh isn't busy on Facebook boring you with his life story he is usually getting up and down the wing. Has a bit of pace about him and can also strike a ball from distance.

Mike O'Carrol (centre back/ right back)Season Sponsor - Matthew WiseMikey loves the physical battle of being at centre half and is also confident on the ball. Thinks of himself to be a bit like Sergio Ramos but can't see it personally.

Daniel Atkins (centre back/ left back) (captain)Dan is a good tackler and is usually in the right place at the right time. Has a bit of pace about him and and also has ginger hair. He is also only captain as everybody feels a little bit sorry for him. Thinks he is the best on FIFA but has never beat me in 3 attempts.

Sean Targett (right back/ right wing)Season sponsor - Mandy Targett Sean is good at running with the ball and isn't afraid to get involved. In the later stages of his career now as he has hit 30 and slowed down over the years. Adderbury parks Darren Anderton (sick note).

Grant Gulliver (utility man) Grant is very good at sitting in the middle and breaking up play to allow others to play. Never stops running. loves a tackle there never any good but he tries, Scores the odd goal and i mean odd goal when it takes a deflection or two.

Ash Wingrove (midfield/ striker)Ash is very good with the ball at his feet and confident to hold onto the ball. Isn't afraid to fly into a 50/50 tackle if there is one. Loves moaning at everyone, Doesn't like warming up thinks he can sit by the heater and that counts.

Lee Watts (winger)Season sponsor - LatexLee is good on the ball and loves to run at players and put them under pressure. Also is a very quick player and pulls the odd trick out the bag now and again. Also known as Weaner as he is a midget.

Reserve Team Player Profiles…Louis Wimkworth (winger)Louis is new to men's football after joining Adderbury in the summer. Has a very good delivery from wide positions and isn't afraid to get stuck into the physical demands of men's football. Never shuts up, talks to much. Can't handle his beer.

Kyle Forbes (winger)Kyle also joined in the summer and is new to men's football. Kyle got off to the perfect start with a goal on his debut and has a fair bit of pace and isn't afraid to run at the opposition with the ball at his feet. Quietest player in the world, never says a word. Also can't handle his beer.

Andrew Simpson (winger)After rejoining the club in the summer Simpson has made a good impact. Always gives his best and never gives up on anything, has a lot of pace.

Charlie Meredith (winger) Mezza is a very good player with the ball at his feet and is confident to run at and take on the opposition. Also gets a few goals from wide positions. Normally leaves early because the wife doesn't let him out past 6.

Tom Green (striker)Greeny is the target man up top. Good at holding the ball up and using his physical presence to hold of the opposition. Also good at running with the ball. Seen canal boats turn faster.

Aidy Waye (striker) Aidy is known the grandad of the reserves. Also good at holding the ball up and is a physical player. Used to know where the goal was back in his day. Loves throwing his weight around and getting his name taken by the referee.

Josh Davies (striker)Josh is a very quick player who always gives his best. Doesn't give up on anything and is a good goal scorer. Never know what state he is going to turn up in.
