Teens On The Rise Program Has Busy SessionThe Teens On The Rise program has been a great source of “life lessons” for our teen participants. They had several classes related to job hunting and how to project a professional appearance. After the lesson, instructor Brenda Cleveland went with the group as we took the teens shopping at Goodwill to pick out their clothes for success. The kids dressed in their new clothes and put their new skills to use at the Springfield Chamber of Commerce Expo at the Kuss Center. The On The Rise students introduced themselves and spoke with representatives at various booths. Afterwards, the group went to dinner at Casa del Sol.

Teens on the Rise relies heavily on a generous group of citizens who volunteer their time and energy to teach our teens many valuable lessons. We thank the individuals and the following businesses who participated this year: Bolar’s Garage, Wittenberg SYS, Wesbanco, Wallace & Turner, Clark County Extension office, Wittenberg higher education, and the Clark County Health Department. A big thanks to volunteers: Kristen Collier, Emily Smales, Lisa Miller, Kathy Green, Laura Holliday, Erin Armitage, Tiffany Wright, Brenda Cleveland and Mr. Bolar.

Kidding Season on the FarmWe had a lot of new little additions to the farm this spring. We had 17 baby goats born this spring at the farm, and some were sold. Eleven of them will be 4-H projects for members of On The Rise .

Najee & Brittany working at Mother Stewart’s Market

Saturday Market at Mother Stewart’s The Saturday morning market at Mother Stewart’s had a successful season but has come to a close. The On The Rise youth were busy selling eggs, poultry products, goat meat & syrup. The Springfield Farmer’s Market will begin on June 1st.The kids have already planted their carrot seeds to sell their brightly colored carrots at the summer market. Come visit them!

Catholic Central Students Provide a Helping HandCatholic Central has provided help with several projects at the farm. The student volunteers from came in February to haul straw and hay as their community service project. They also worked in the Wilson-Sheehan room to organize materials. They will be coming again this spring to haul mulch and to help with sanding shelves in the kitchen. A special thanks to Gracyn Nickerson who helped by bringing four student videographers to tape the presentations given at the Teens On The Rise programs this year. The videos will be helpful tools for outreach to promote our program.

Golden Egg Award RecipientThe staff at On The Rise will begin to recognize special people who mean a lot to us. We want to acknowledge with a Golden Egg award the generosity of Ann & Greg Clifford of North Carolina who have been sending On The Rise a monthly donation. Ann  was a past volunteer at the farm working with the teen program and she has never forgotten the kids of On The Rise. Thank you!

Special Volunteers are Moving OnThe youth and staff of On The Rise are sad to say “good-bye” to two special people. Cory Cleveland has assisted and been an intern for Teens on the Rise for the past 3 years and she is graduating from Wittenberg. Stella Conrad has been our “farm sitter” for the past 2 years and a  very special volunteer. Both have been an integral part of the farm life and will be missed by the kids and the staff. We wish Cory and Stella the best. We know their futures are bright!
