“Giraffes CAN Dance” Art Project
Materials:
Pencil
Crayons
Watercolor paint (if available); Cold brewed tea or coffee also work great for painting the brown spots
Yellow construction paper for the giraffe (can color white paper with a yellow crayon)
Black construction paper (if available, for the background)
Procedure:
1. Read the book and/or watch the short animated version of "Giraffes Can't Dance”. It conveys a great message about individuality and acceptance.
2. On yellow paper, draw a large oval in the center of the page. This is the body.
3. Draw a curved neck with an oval or triangular head on one end of the large oval (body). The head can go on either side.
4. Draw four legs, bent in different directions. Try to make the legs fairly thick for ease of cutting and gluing.
5. Draw a tail at the opposite end of the head.
6. Draw details: eyes, nostrils, spots, etc.
7. Using watercolor paint or cold brewed tea/coffee, paint brown spots on the yellow paper giraffe. Let it dry completely!
8. While your giraffe is drying, you can work on the background! Using crayons, draw a jungle scene on black (or any color available) paper.
9. Once your jungle background is finished, carefully cut out and glue the giraffe to the background.
10. Send a picture of your completed masterpiece to [email protected] for our virtual art gallery!
