English Grammar- Autumn review – Modal verbs, suffixes, prefixes, pronouns, types of nouns etc. This week, you will be asked to review some of the Grammar terms we have used in our writing so far. Follow the link below and have a go at the activities. Try not to look at the answer sheets but do mark your own work. This will build confidence in your writing as you will familiarise yourself with these again. You can try one sheet per day- if you’re feeling brave- then have a go doing more than 1. Division practice : We have been asking you to do times-tables practise a lot lately (and rightly so!), but this week we want you to mix it up by doing some inverse and reinforcing your knowledge of number families. Go to https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and click on “Division Facts”. Are you ready for the “mixed” challenge or do you need to become secure in a particular times-table? “Hit the Button” is a great game as it can be played on a phone or tablet and requires no log in. English Writing – research and note taking

Day 1 – Today we will be watching a video clip of the Rainforest https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vijLre760w and we will begin to take some notes in the form of a mind map. You can use your own paper here or you can download and print off this sheet https://my.uso.im/mydrive/8d04483209d8449290cde5bd74e759e4/Mindmap-template .These notes will be used later this week when making our information booklet on the rainforest.

Day 2 - Today we want to continue our work on note taking. Use https://my.uso.im/mydrive/f498f8ee4d9c43818158fe27b9458070/world-map-labelling-sheet-_ver_2 to identify the countries where rainforests are found around the world and any unique flora and fauna from each. You may wish to colour in or highlight these areas using a key. Have a look at https://www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/rain-forest/ for some more information or Virtual Field Trip – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEsV5rqbVNQ on Youtube.

Day 3 –Now that we have started with our notes, here is an example of what your booklet should look like when completed; these examples are from past year 5 pupils. Let’s look at what the booklet contains. Today, we will revisit video clips and after each, you will have the chance to write notes under different subheadings. You may wish to use https://my.uso.im/mydrive/30d4e2583a8a4e3b83b9d88eaf1d555d/Notes-with-headings or you can use your own paper at home but remember to keep it safe as we will be using it again.

In the next 3 weeks, we will be starting our new book which takes place in the rainforest of Brazil. We have decided to use this book to stimulate your writing skills and I’m sure, just like me and the other teachers, you will totally enjoy this novel. We will start by making an information booklet on the rainforest
