Mathematics Arithmetic questions and times tables will continue to be reviewed on a regular basis throughout the term. We will begin by consolidating previous place value understanding before moving on to explore addition and subtraction and then multiplication and division. The focus will be on using our knowledge to solve problems and work independently. The Science In our unit on plants we will be looking at the parts of a plant and what they do, as well as its lifecycle. We will compare plants from our school environment and look at them more closely. We will look at the human MFL We will be learning French this year, beginning with some basic classroom commands to get the children used to hearing instructions on a regular basis. We will look at greetings and saying how we are. The focus will be Computing We will begin by using the Ipads to help us write fables using ‘Story Creator’. The Ipads will also be used to assist our research into Anglo Saxon life. In the ICT suite we will start by creating and saving documents in our own area as well as sharing documents on the school shared area. We will focus on using Arts & Music Throughout the year we will be learning to play the Baritone with help from a music specialist. In art we will have the chance to create Anglo Saxon buildings and settlements as well as PE We will be supported by ‘Grassroots’ throughout this year and they will begin by teaching us basketball skills. Mathematics

Arithmetic questions and times tables will continue to be reviewed on a regular basis throughout the term.

We will begin by consolidating previous place value understanding before moving on to explore addition and subtraction and then multiplication and division.

The focus will be on using our knowledge to solve problems and work independently. The children will be given the chance to use number facts, complete calculations mentally and learn formal written methods to record addition and subtraction.

Science

In our unit on plants we will be looking at the parts of a plant and what they do, as well as its lifecycle. We will compare plants from our school environment and look at them more closely.

We will look at the human skeleton and its purpose, as well as good nutrition for our bodies.

MFL

We will be learning French this year, beginning with some basic classroom commands to get the children used to hearing instructions on a regular basis. We will look at greetings and saying how we are. The focus will be mostly on speaking and listening for this first term.

Computing

We will begin by using the Ipads to help us write fables using ‘Story Creator’. The Ipads will also be used to assist our research into Anglo Saxon life. In the ICT suite we will start by creating and saving documents in our own area as well as sharing documents on the school shared area. We will focus on using Word to improve typing skills and PowerPoint to demonstrate learning about the topic Anglo Saxon life.

PE

We will be supported by ‘Grassroots’ throughout this year and they will begin by teaching us basketball skills.

During other lessons we will be developing our striking and fielding skills by learning to play Kwik Cricket.

English

To begin the year we are learning to write an explanation to demonstrate how things work.

Later in the term we will be writing traditional tales, writing and performing plays based on familiar stories and creating a new fable with a moral. In addition we will be exploring Anglo Saxon poetry, reciting and learning limericks and performing our own poems. We will then focus on recounts by writing eg sport reports.

We are also going to continue using basic handwriting joins and SPAG activities (spelling, punctuation and grammar) as part of our English lessons.

Arts & Music

Throughout the year we will be learning to play the Baritone with help from a music specialist.

In art we will have the chance to create Anglo Saxon buildings and settlements as well as completing painting and chalk drawings to deepen our understanding of Anglo Saxon life.

RE & PSHE

This term will see us learning about Christianity. We will study some of the stories that Jesus told that describe God.

We will be learning about the benefits of friendship, how to be cooperative and strategies for coping with alternative opinions as well as perseverance.

Geography & History

Anglo Saxons - We will learn about the lives of Anglo Saxon and British people and understand invaders and settlers and their motivation as well as locating the geographical origins of the people. We will explore the cultural importance of storytelling, music and poetry to the Anglo Saxons. In addition we will be investigating settlements, buildings, food and recreation. There will be opportunities to design and build items including homes and to attempt to make food eaten during this period.
