Industrial history of Częstochowa district is connected with development of this area. In the twenties of the XIX century next to Częstochowa was created quite significant textile industry center in Huta Stara. Faster development of the industry Częstochowa dates in the late nineteenth century and it was related to the rise of factory industry, based on the steam powered. Most emerging textile factories were located on the outskirts of the town at the mouth of the river.Częstochowa district was represented by Stradom, Wełnopol, Huta Częstochowa and Polontex.

POLONTEXPolontex SA is a textile factory located in Częstochowa. The institute started working by the year 1883. It operates manufacturing and distribution, for example decoraite fabrics like curtains. Today Polontex SA is one of the biggest Polish private textile factory. It lead three production profiles: the production of yarn, fabric production and the production of textiles.

FLAX INDUSTRY FACTORY „WARTA”It was plant which produced yarn and woven jute. It was set up in 1895.It doesn’t exist now.

„Wełnopol” was a textile industry. It had 2 factories.

First made of place to yarn and colour a woolen(appeared in 1887) and second made of place

for tanningan animal skins to make a leather (appeared in

1897).

In 1930 the company’s capital amount to 36 milion Frenchfrancs and there worked 1957 workers. Each of them hadhis/her own book with regulations about hours of work andbreaks, their rights, eventual fights, thetfs etc.

Near factory there was a

housing development for

workers and their families.

Firstly 125 families, later

much more.

SCARY, HUH?

The oldest textile plant in Częstochowa set up in 1882.

Plant had 6 departments and 2500 workers. In that

factory they used jute and hemp fiber. They were making

sacks and fabrics.

In 1980 factory became more modern. It started to use

polypropylene. All modernization costed about 35 mld

złotych, but it was necessary, because of competition from

other countries. Thanks for that STRADOM started to send

their products to for example Spain, Italy, Netherlands,

Izrael.
