Principal’s reportDear parents/caregivers,
Week 4, this term is just flying by. I would encourage you to keep an eye on the school calendar and the notifications on the SkoolBag app as there is lots happening over the next few weeks.
Through our giving back mufti day we were able to raise $350
to donate to Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands to assist them in the great work they do across the Hawkesbury, as it is always
great to give back. Well done Bligh Park.

On Friday 1 November, 48 very excited Bligh Park Kindergarten students, along with 10 teachers and parents/carers had an early start and boarded a coach bound
for Sydney Taronga Zoo.
From the moment our students entered the zoo, they were in awe of the sights, smells and sounds around them. After a short refreshment stop, they wove through the zoo stopping to observe koalas, giraffes, elephants, meerkats, capybaras, seals, penguins, birds and many more in their habitat. The students’ excitement and their reactions to the animals’ ‘antics’ were priceless!
The seal show was a must-see and our students were treated to some wonderful antics performed by well-trained seals supported by talented marine zookeepers who told us many interesting facts about seals and their survival needs. There were many opportunities for audience participation throughout the show.

The students’ excitement and their reactions to the animals’
‘antics’ were priceless!
A highlight of the day was the visit to the education centre where our students participated in a 45-minute lesson led by one of the zoo teachers. During this animal encounter experience, our students engaged in an intimate session meeting some fascinating native Australian animals, learning about their roles in the environment and their unique features and adaptations that help them thrive in the wild. The Bligh Park students were commended for their wonderful manners, great listening skills and thoughtful answers to the teacher’s questions.
The return journey saw some very tired little people who had walked from one end of the zoo and back again but had many happy memories of a wonderful day at Sydney Taronga Zoo to share with their families.

Many aspects of a student’s placement are taken into consideration, to
carefully place every student. The teachers possess information on each student’s academic ability, reading levels, mathematics ability, NAPLAN results and emotional and social needs. Student friendship groups are taken into consideration as well.
Possible friendship groups are 1 consideration in the placement, however, it is viewed in terms of ‘learning buddies’ not necessarily ‘social buddies’. While having a special friend is important, I remind everyone that this is a class group for learning.
We will commence our planning for 2020 soon and would greatly appreciate receiving information regarding any special considerations relating to class placements for the 2020 school year, as staff will soon begin the lengthy process of forming classes.
Planning for
2020This is a very thorough process that involves considerable time, sensitivity and care. Every child is placed in reference to a bigger plan of how students, classes and teachers come together for optimal learning.
If you have any important information that you feel we need to take into consideration when placing your child/children for the 2020 school year, please inform me in writing prior to Friday 1 November 2019.
This can be done by writing a letter and dropping it into the school office or sending an email to: [email protected].
Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to change a child’s class after the new school year has commenced. Whilst, all concerns will be taken into consideration, I cannot guarantee that all requests will be fulfilled.
Also, if your child is not returning to Bligh Park Public School in 2020, please let the office staff know so we can do as much as possible to organise classes around anticipated enrolments.
If you have any concerns which you would like to discuss, please contact the school office to make an appointment.
Kind regards,Joan Westerweller
On Friday 5 November, I had the pleasure of taking 3 students to Londonderry Public School to participate in the Hawkesbury public speaking competition.
Kayla 5W, Taylor 4L and Abigail 4L presented both a prepared and an impromptu speech. For their prepared speeches, students chose a topic from the topics given. All topics were related to content covered in classes this year.
Congratulations to our public speaking contestants on a job well done and for being outstanding ambassadors for our school.
Emma Williams, Public Speaking Coordinator
Well done Kayla 5W,Taylor 4L and Abigail 4L.
Hawkesbury public speaking competition Artwork fundraiserThank you to the families who have supported our current fundraiser and purchased products which will feature your child’s artwork. Students have created some lovely artwork for this project, which will make a lovely keepsake or present for those who have ordered. This fundraiser concluded today and orders will be sent home as soon as they are received in about 3-4 weeks.
Christmas raffleThe P&C are currently organising a Christmas raffle which will be drawn at the school Christmas concert. Raffle tickets and further information will be sent home sortly.
P&C meetingOur next P&C meeting on Monday, 18 November at 7.00pm in the staffroom will be our last meeting for the year. This will be an informal meeting to share some light refreshment and celebrate our achievements as a result of the wonderful support our school community has given the P&C this year. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Thank you. P&C Committee

Kindergarten transition
They were greeted
by our very excited
Year 3 buddies
who were wearing
super sleuth
glasses.
At the canteen, the students and their buddies were
treated to an ice block which they enjoyed immensely.
The session was enjoyed by all and many of them were asking when they were coming back again which is a very positive sign that they enjoyed their
morning at big school.
The final task was a craft activity under the COLA where the new Kindergarten students
found a card with the first letter of their name on it and
decorated it with confetti.
There were some very excited little children with big smiles on their faces on Monday 4 November when our 2020 Kindergarten students attended their very first transition to school session.
After introducing
themselves, the
buddies helped their
new friends to make
a pair of super sleuth
glasses which they
wore as they visited
various areas of
the school.
In each location,
they received a
stamp on their
treasure hunt card.

SRC report
For your chance to win a canteen voucher, all you need is 1 lucky SRC Bluey to go into the draw and the more SRC Blueys you collect the better the chance of your name being drawn from the box. So let’s keep up the great work out in the playground!
Community food appealThis term the SRC made the decision to participate in the community food appeal. Our SRC would like to encourage our school community to support families in the wider community by donating non-perishable food items for hampers. Strong Nation will distribute hampers to families who find it difficult to experience the joy of Christmas due to their circumstances.
All food items will be collected by the Strong Nation Community by 20 November.
Thank you, SRC
Project ‘clean up’ updateThis SRC focus for the next two weeks is in the playground and is focusing on lining up respectfully and quietly. We would like to thank everyone who has been following the focus and being responsible in the playground.
At our last assembly we mentioned that there was going to be some changes to the SRC project clean up and we would like to share these with you.
There will continue to be 2 selected SRC members at recess and lunch handing out the SRC Blueys. So that you know who these members are, they will now be wearing a yellow Hi-Vis vest, just like the teachers on duty.
Another big change is that you no longer need to hold onto your Blueys. The SRC representative who gives you a SRC Bluey, will write your name and class on it and put it in a box that they will carry with them at recess and lunch. All your Blueys will get put into the box and at the Monday morning assembly, we will be drawing 1 SRC Bluey out of the box. The person whose name is drawn will be rewarded a $2 canteen voucher.
Congratulations to Chanelle (3S), who received the
$2 canteen voucher from our SRC at
Monday’s assembly

Applying for Year 7 entry into selective high schools in 2021Government schools use a range of strategies to meet the educational needs of gifted and talented students. One strategy is selective high school placement, which provides intellectual stimulation and an educationally enriched environment for gifted and talented students. Offers for selective high school placement will be determined mainly on the basis of the selective high school placement test results and school assessment.
This process is conducted online and the site is open from 8 October through to 11 November.
