Films manufactured by multilayer coextrusion, using combinations of homopolymers (LDPE and LLDPE), copolymers (EVA and EBA) and metallocene resins. These materials are combined in different layers to make the most of their agronomic benefits. The INDASOL films are thermal (they reduce cooling inside the greenhouse at night) and are available in different thicknesses and presentations, depending on the end application.

Excellent mechanical properties: combining the flexibility of the EBA/EVA copolymers in the central layers with the rigidity and mechanical strength of the LLDPE materials and the metallocenes in the outer layers.Highly resistant to degradation due to both UV radiation and treatments applied inside the greenhouses.Good transmission of visible light, generating high luminosity within the greenhouse. The DIFFUSE version prevents shadows forming in the greenhouse, thus producing greater uniformity of radiation and preventing irregular crop growth. In the CRISTAL version, direct transmission is very high, with very little diffusion, making it suitable for geographic areas with low radiation or short sunlight hours.Highly efficient heat-insulation, making the INDASOL films an ideal solution for geographical areas with sharp night-time temperature drops. How long each product lasts depends on the climate and radiation in the area of agriculture, the product characteristics and the agricultural uses it is put to.

PRODUCT RANGEMULCH

The SOLPLAST mulch products are manufactured in multilayer structures, with a combination of LDPE, LLDPE and metallocene resins. They are manufactured in different thicknesses and presentations, depending on the end application, but always maintaining high mechanical and agronomic qualities.

GENERAL FEATURES

Mulch films are used to protect crops from atmospheric agents and prevents effects such as:

Drying of the soil.Deterioration of product quality.Cooling of the land.Fertilizer washing.

They improve the soil structure: constant moisture leads to better, more lateral and shallower root development. They improve soil moisture: preventing water evaporation. They regulate and balance the soil temperature.Generally, soil temperature rises during the day and remains steady at night. They improve land fertility by increasing temperature and moisture, favouring soil nitrification. They can affect the growth of weeds. They improve product quality by preventing contact with the soil, especially with creeping crops.

SOLPLAST soil disinfection films are manufactured in multilayer structures, with a combination of LDPE, LLDPE and metallocene and/or barrier resins, as well as the necessary additives. They are manufactured in thicknesses ranging from 20 to 50 micras, maintaining high mechanical and agronomic qualities.

The films for disinfecting soils are designed to improve the effectiveness of disinfection.Different types of film are used, depending on the type of disinfection to be carried out. Each one is designed with specific characteristics to adapt it to different types of disinfection. The multilayer technology used by SOLPLAST to manufacture its products permits the combination of resins and additives, thus obtaining a wide range of properties to match each type of application. In some cases, effects such as light transmission or heat radiation are strengthened to increase soil temperatures and provide good disinfection through solarisation (DESINFESOL Solarisation). Resins with thermal properties are used for this purpose, as they maintain heat in the soil for longer, thus lengthening the optimum conditions for good solarisation. Anti-drip additive are also incorporated to prevent drips forming on the film surface, maximising thermal radiation transmission to the soil.In other cases, special high gas-barrier resins are used to reduce gas loss through the plastic (DESINFESOL Special DS) or practically impede such loss (DESINFESOL Barrier). In both cases, the aim is to increase the efficacy of soil disinfection, reducing times and improving the mortality of possible pathogens, even at greater soil depths.

Temperatures under a given threshold notable harm crops grown in greenhouses. To avoid temperature drops, especially at night and the early morning, thermal plastics are useful for greenhouse roofing. These films maintain the greenhouse temperature, reducing cooling in the area of cultivation. The double screen films are used to improve thermal protection of crops, thus strengthening the effect of the roofing while reducing light transmission into the greenhouse as less as possible. In addition, these double screen films create an air chamber between the roof plastic and the double screen, which delays cooling, reducing thermal oscillations and reducing stress caused to plants.

The SOLPLAST double screen films are produced using resins which considerably improve light transmission into the greenhouse, minimising losses in the area of cultivation. In addition, they have a thermal effect that strengthens that of the greenhouse roof. The air chamber created between the two films (roof and double screen) minimises heat oscillations between night and day.The DOUBLE SCREEN film is also characterised by its anti-drip effect. This prevents drops forming inside the sheet due to condensation in the greenhouse. A continuous sheet of water forms instead of drops and with an adequate incline of the double screen film, this flows towards the sides of the greenhouse, preventing dripping onto plants and reducing the risk of diseases.Absence of drops also improves light transmission, avoiding total reflection effect. This increases heating in the greenhouse, especially in the early morning. The DOUBLE SCREEN films can be manufactured with holes 10 or 5 mm in diameter to improve ventilation inside the greenhouse and also prevent the formation of pockets of water on the top of the double screen.

PRODUCT RANGESMALL TUNNEL GENERAL FEATURES

TUNESOL

Small tunnels are light, simple structures for protecting crops from the weather and external agents.Their small size produces very low thermal inertia, heating rapidly during the day and releasing heat rapidly at night. For crops or geographical areas that do not require thermal properties, SOLPLAST offers the products TUNESOL Natural and TUNESOL Natural UV.These films have excellent mechanical properties, providing the crops with physical protection from external harm. The ultraviolet stabilisation provided by TUNESOL UV gives it a longer life if required by the application. When a more technical product is required for this application, SOLPLAST offers its TUNESOL Thermal Diffuse and TUNESOL Thermal Cristal films. The composition of these materials includes resins with thermal properties, as well as a package of IR additives that improve heat retention, avoiding sharp drops in temperature, especially during periods of frosts.TUNESOL Thermal Diffuse provides good light diffusion, preventing formation of shadows in the small tunnel, thus improving the regular plant development. It is suitable for areas of high radiation. For areas of lower radiation, or crops that require high light transmission, we recommend TUNESOL Thermal Cristal, whose high transparency maximises light to the plants.Anti-drip additives may be added to these films, to prevent drops forming inside the sheet. Instead of such drops, a continuous sheet of water forms, which, preventing dripping onto plants and reducing the risk of diseases. In addition, the absence of drops improves light transmission, preventing the total reflection effect. This increases heating in the greenhouse, especially in the early morning. These films may be manufactured with holes 12, 10 or 5 mm in diameter with different layouts to improve ventilation in the tunnel, thus favouring crop development.

SOLPLAST silage films are manufactured in multilayer structures, with a combination of LDPE, LLDPE and metallocene resins. They are manufactured in different thicknesses and formulations and are specifically designed for covering forage, so it maintains its high nutritional qualities for livestock. This range also includes silage films to cover corn or peat.

One of the main problems in forage production is its seasonal nature, leading to the use of preservation practices so the forage may be used later. These practices ensure the quality of the forage is maintained.Silage is a conservation technique for moist grass and grain using plastic covers. It involves spontaneous lactic fermentation in anaerobic conditions (lack of O2).This fermentation produces acidification (pH reduction to around 4.2), inhibiting the activity of micro-organisms, which can degrade the product, and fungal activity. This process enables feed to be stored after harvesting, maintaining its nutritional quality and strength, thus increasing the animal count per hectare and replacing or complementing feed concentrates.

Agriculture in many parts of the world is affected by lack of water, as rain often falls at the wrong time and not in the required amounts. Furthermore, not all farms have the necessary resources or the right size for building large reservoirs and canals. The best alternative for this water storage need is to build small waterproof reservoirs using plastic sheets. The reasons for using these sheets include their price (very economical) and ease of installation.

These products for waterproofing are manufactured in thicknesses from 250 µ to 1 mm, for the GEOEMBALSE Standard and 500 µ for the GEOEMBALSE Welded. The GEOEMBALSE Standard is manufactured with a combination for LDPE and LLDPE resins, which give the end product high mechanical strength, especially against penetration and impact, making the product particularly suitable for this application. The GEOEMBALSE Weldable is manufactured with a three-layer structure, using LDPE, LLDPE and other specific material to optimise product performance in the application. The external layers of this film consist of easily weldable materials to guarantee a good joint between the different sheets used in building the reservoir. The central layer is manufactured from materials with high mechanical strength, which also give the product the required rigidity for easy handling. In both cases the film is stabilised with carbon black, to guarantee total film opacity, as well as good protection from UV radiation.

The SOLPLAST product range also includes solutions for various applications, using specific materials:

B/W FILM FOR HYDROPONIC CULTIVATION

Two-tone (black/white) sheet manufactured using LDPE, LLDPE and metallocenes, in thicknesses starting at 100 µ (400 gauges). It is used as a medium for hydroponic cultivation substrates (without soil). It is characterised by excellent mechanical properties.Reflection of light off the white layer prevents the risk of burns in the aerial part of the plant, while providing extra light to the lower parts, thus improving crop yield.

The black layer guarantees complete opacity, preventing weed growth.

STRETCHABLE CUCUMBER FILM

This product is designed specifically for packaging cucumber. It is manufactured in thicknesses ranging from 15 to 20 micras, using resins authorised for food contact. Its mechanical and optical properties (high gloss and transparency) and its capacity to stretch make it particularly suitable suitable for this application.

PROTECTION FILMS

This group includes films manufactured for construction, protection for boats or large machinery, product storage and packaging, pallet fumigation, protection from external agents and more.In all cases, these films are characterised by their easy installation and handling and their flexibility for use in different applications.SOLPLAST adapts these types of products to each specific application, modifying their properties to obtain the desired results in each case.

BULK CONTAINER LINER

Liners are used throughout the world to sent raw materials that require moisture control, odour protection and good protection against contamination. They are also used as a physical protection barrier to avoid contamination of the container carrying the product, thus permitting very different types of product to be loaded, using the same container for successive journeys.Container and flexitank liners are frequently used as a economical solution for the bulk transport of chemical products, grains, cereals, liquids, granulated products and more.SOLPLAST has developed various specific types of plastic for use as container liners for the transport of both solid and liquid products. These materials are manufactured in different widths and thicknesses, depending on the end application. The materials are designed in multilayer structures, using combinations of metallocene resins and EVA/EBA copolymers, which strengthen the mechanical properties of the product. This prevents problems of tearing due to the pressure exerted by the load inside the liner, as well as possible damage caused by movement of the load during the journey. There are certain applications where the characteristics of the transported product require a high O2 barrier to prevent oxidation. In these cases, barrier sheets are required to impede the gas crossing the plastic.SOLPLAST offers solutions for these types of products, using films in 5-layer structures, with a layer of barrier resin, adapted to the application. As well as the gas-barrier properties, these materials have a high mechanical strength, guaranteeing preservation of the transported product against possible damage caused during the journey.
