Sparks Activities (16.5.20.) Paul and Silas in Jail

We have been looking at Jesus miracles over the last few weeks.

Today we are going to look at a miracle that happened in the life of a man called Paul.

We can find this story in the book of Acts.

Paul and Silas in JailYou can read this in Acts 16:16-40 The girl followed Paul

shouting out that “These men are servants of the Most High God and they

can tell us the way of salvation!”

Luke is telling this story, he wrote Acts and saw what happened.

We were walking through the streets of Philippi on our way

to pray.We saw a slave girl acting

strangely.The men that owned her made

a lot of money from her because she told people the

future

You can read this in Acts 16:16-40

Paul turned around and told the spirit that was in her to

come out. It came out of her. But now she could not tell her

future so her owners were angry. They dragged Paul and Silas into the marketplace to

the police.

They told the judges that Paul

and Silas had been causing trouble

and breaking the law.

The crowd of people tore off Silas and Paul's coats and

beat them up. The Judges threw Paul and Silas prison.

But at midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing to God. The other

prisoners were listening to them.

The prison guard woke up and saw the doors open.

He was very scared, because he would be in trouble if the prisoners

escaped.

Suddenly, there was an earthquake! The prison shook and all

the doors opened and the chains fell

off everyone.

Paul and Silas told the guard and his family the good news about Jesus.

ALL his family were baptized. They went back to the guard’s house and

ate while the guard rejoiced

Paul told the guard everything was Ok,

everyone was still there. The guard was amazed and called for a light and ran to Paul and Silas and asked:

“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

Some really difficult things happened to Paul and Silas in this story – they were beaten up and put in prison. And yet they started singing and praising God in jail.

How could they have done this?

Paul and Silas knew that even in the jail God was with them. His love for

them was the most important thing and that

hadn’t changed.

Something to pray about..

Think about some of the things that are difficult in lock down, maybe being away from

friends, not being able to do something that you like doing or people you love being ill.

Write them down or draw them

Think about some good things which have come out of this time, for example parents

being around more, fun things you may have done at home.

The memory verse today means that if we love God he will work things out for good

depending on his plans for our lives.

Thank God that in every situation God brings good things, even when times are difficult.
