Saturday 20 June needs to be a special day on everybody’s diary. Mass demonstrations against

austerity are planned in London and Glasgow, called by the People’s Assembly, Scottish TUC and the Scottish People’s Assembly.

Since the election on 7 May we’ve begun to see what five more years of Tory rule could mean.

The Tories’ agenda is all about attacking the unions, slashing benefits, rolling back our rights and targeting and scapegoating migrants.

But we don’t have to take it. Already thousands have taken to the streets against Tory plans, and workers have begun to fightback.

TrafalgarLast Saturday thousands came to Trafalgar Square in London to show their support for PCS members at the National Gallery who are striking against privatisation and for the reinstatement of their sacked rep Candy Udwin.

soon if RMT members believe the offer is good enough to end the dispute.

In Scotland NHS porters on Tayside and Homelessness Caseworkers in Glasgow are in their third month of all-out strikes.

Unison members in Barnet in north London have struck against privatisation, GMB members in Barking in east London are continuing to strike against pay cuts, college lecturers at London Metropolitan University and Lewisham & Southwark College (LESOCO) are striking against job losses.

9 - 13 July, central London A five day political festival to discuss alternatives for a world in crisisHosted by Socialist Workers Party

Themes include:• Why did Labour

lose?• The fight against

racism and Islamophobia

• Left alternatives after the Election

And this week saw victories for engineers working for Kone Engineering and for teachers and parents fighting academies in Lewisham.

It’s great to see resistance. We need to bring all these fights together.

That starts with everyone building for the biggest possible turnout on the demonstrations on 20 June.

AutumnWe need to see national demonstrations at the Tory Party conference in October in Manchester, and the unions should be calling for a national protest when anti-union legislation is debated in the autumn.

But we also need nationally co-ordinated strikes. That could really stop the Tories’ plans.

We saw mass strikes over pensions in 2011 and over pay in 2014.

But some union leaders pulled back from action. We simply can’t afford to let this happen again.

The Tories are out to take everything we hold dear. We are in the fight of our lives. We need to take to the streets and we need to strike. We must defy Tory rule.
