“In the liturgy of the Church, God the Father is blessed and adored as the source of all the blessings of

creation and salvation with which he has blessed us in his Son….” (Catechism of Catholic Church no. 1110)

We are the Agents of God’s Blessings The Eucharist we celebrate offers us the great opportunity to share in the richness of God’s blessings. The two

main parts of the Eucharistic liturgy (Liturgy of the Word & Liturgy of the Eucharist) prepare us in different

ways that are linked together to participate and share in these blessings. The Word of God that is proclaimed

and shared among us takes flesh and dwells in us through the Eucharistic presence of body and blood of Christ,

the spiritual food that gives us spiritual strength we need in our daily life.

The words of Prophet Jeremiah in the 1st reading remain a great encouragement to us as we continue to reaffirm

and strengthen our trust in God through our prayers and worship. Our trust in God as Jeremiah uses the analogy

of trees planted beside the waters to describe; carries us through, amidst the storms and struggles of our lives. In

the same way, the gospel presents to us Luke’s version of the beatitudes. The blessings that come to God’s

people, not because, either that they are poor, hungry, weeping, hated, rich, laughing, are consoled, or are

spoken good of, but because they trust in God. When our life lacks this trust in God, then we become most

pitiable of all the people as St. Paul describes in the 2nd reading.

The richness of God’s blessing we are privileged to experience and share in this Eucharistic celebration

prepares us to become the agents of God’s blessings. God will bless others through us. He wants us to make

ourselves available so that we become instruments through which he shares his blessings in the world. Let us

remember always that whenever we share God’s given gifts to others, we become God’s gifts to them. We pray

that the good Lord will help us to remember and live this out always. Amen.

“You did not choose me, no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and bear fruit, fruit that will

last….” (John 15: 16).

Mass Intentions: For the People of God Other Intentions:

The family of Chief and Lolo Fidelia Ndekwe offer this Mass for the repose of the souls of Lolo Fidelia's parents, Ezinna Innocent and Ezinne Celina Obidiagha. May their souls rest in perfect peace.

FIRST READING: Jeremiah 17:5-8

A Reading from the book of Jeremiah THUS says the LORD: Cursed is the one who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the

LORD. He is like a barren bush in the desert that enjoys no change of season, but stands in a lava waste, a salt

and empty earth.

Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD. He is like a tree planted beside the waters

that stretches out its roots to the stream: it fears not the heat when it comes; its leaves stay green; in the year of

drought it shows no distress, but still bears fruit.

The word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps.1:1-2, 3-4,6

R. Blessed are they who hope in the Lord. Blessed the man who follows not the counsel of the wicked, nor walks in the way of sinners, nor sits in the company of the insolent, but delights in the law of the LORD and meditates on his law day and night. He is like a tree planted near running water, that yields its fruit in due season, and whose leaves never fade. Whatever he does, prospers. Not so the wicked, not so; they are like chaff which the wind drives away. For the LORD watches over the way of the just, but the way of the wicked vanishes.

SECOND READING: 1Corinthians 15:12, 16-20

A reading from the First Letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians:

Brothers and sisters, if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some among you say there is no

resurrection of the dead? If the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised, and if Christ has not been

raised, your faith is vain; you are still in your sins. Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If

for this life only we have hoped in Christ, we are the most pitiable people of all.

But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

The Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God

GOS P E L : Luke 6:17-16, 20-26

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke: Jesus came down with the twelve and stood on a stretch of level ground with a great crowd of his disciples and

a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon. And

raising his eyes toward his disciples he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.

Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you

will laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your

name as evil on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be

great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way. But woe to you who are rich, for you

have received your consolation. 4

Page 5: We are the Agents of God’s Blessings SUNDAY IN OR… · The words of Prophet Jeremiah in the 1st reading remain a great encouragement to us as we continue to reaffirm and strengthen

7

Woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and

weep. Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way.”

The Gospel of the Lord

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

I believe in one God I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; Through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man . For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic, and5 apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen
