PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
I hope this month brings us all nothing but hearts and flowers, perhaps some candy. We had an overwhelming turnout for the Special Congregational Meeting on Jan. 22nd; 82 families signed in. We almost ran out of lox and bagels. The Congregation approved the resolution, to put the TAS property on the market, by a vote of 53 to 21 (more than 70% approval). This was not an easy decision for anyone. We all love the Temple; the building holds a special place in all our hearts, but we need to face the future with clear eyes. We are now poised to do that. Jim Himmel has agreed to chair the committee assigned to coordinate the marketing and listing of the property. Comments were made at the meeting that there is an active market for Church properties in the Chicagoland area. Time will tell. We plan to see if the Village of Olympia Fields or the Olympia Fields Park District would be interested in purchasing our property. No matter what interest there may be in our building, we will be here for the High Holidays. Members of the Steering Committee met with several high ranking officials of Federation at the Stone JCC in January. The bottom line is, Stone is not a viable option as a location for a merged Congregation. The Steering Committee meets again on February 16th after all three Congregations have their Board meetings. We should have a draft of a more detailed Letter of Intent to Merge before the Board Meetings. As always, I will keep you informed on our progress. Mark S. Fine [email protected]

TAS MEN’S CLUB NEWS
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK
We have some wonderful things happening in the month of February. Beit AmiChai will participate in the World Wide Wrap on Sunday, February 5th. We participated last year and it was a great
experience for our students to learn about tefillin and actually get to put it on. Thank you to Ron Rutzky for coordinating this and including Beit AmiChai. Friday, February 10th is a Youth/Family Shabbat and it is also Shabbat Shira. Our Youth Choir will help lead us in song to make this a beautiful and joyful Shabbat! Services are at B'nai Yehuda Beth Shol-om at 7:00 p.m. That weekend is also special because it is Tu B'Shevat! Our classes will celebrate with Tu B'Shevat seders on February 12th; it is always a fun time! On that same day we will also have many of our older students helping to make calls at the JUF phone-a-thon. The kids look forward to doing their part each year and they always do such a great job! Mindy Miller, Principal
This spring your Men’s Club will be running two fund raisers simultaneously. First one is the Kosher Hot Dog and Salami Sale (From Romanian); the proceeds will go to Beit AmiChai. The second is the annual flower sale which benefits the Temple. Watch your e-mail and your mailbox for details. We are still planning on a spring event and will have some additional information on that in the March bulletin. The “Dimes are a Shul’s Best Friend” is ongoing so if you need another water bottle just ask. The Mitzvah Fund is another of the Men’s Club ongoing projects to help congregants in need. We need your help to maintain this very important project. Our next meeting is Thursday February 23rd, with the place to be determined. The Men’s Club needs your help to continue providing programs and services. Please continue to send me your ideas. As always, your participation is greatly appreciated! Thank you. If you have any questions or comments please contact me at [email protected] or call me at 708-207-6831 Jay Zoline
