"Heroes are those who can somehow resist the power of the
situation and act out of noble motives, or behave in ways that do
not demean others when they easily can. – Dr, Philip Zimbardo"
This week has been deeply nourishing. We saw our first dropsof rain soaked up quickly by the parched land. We sang andcelebrated each other’s heroicness and kind deeds. And welearned. We learned from each other, from ourselves and froma very special guest, Dr. Philip Zimbardo.
There are so few individuals in history who have taught usmore about human psychology than Dr. Zimbardo. For over 50years he has been engaged in his life’s passions of learningand teaching and this week he has shared with us his HeroicImagination Project, teaching young people how to stand up,speak out and act courageously in challenging situations asthe everyday heroes that they are.

Bamboopalooza Specia l Tour !
On the 4th of December, same day of the event, we will have
very special tour leaders in our Green School Tour - the local
scholar parents Ibu Darwi, Pak Gede Astana Jaya and Pak
Komang Widasta.
These parents work in the travel industry in Bali and have a
deep knowledge and experience with connecting tourists and
local people.
“I am Gede, father of Gusde, grade 4B at Green School, one
of the students of Local Scholarship Programme. I was born
and grew up in a small village in Bali. I am passionate about
tourism development and have been involved in tourism
since I was at high school. After graduating from the College
of tourism in Bali, I worked at a large travel agency. After
working more than 8 years in the tourism industry I realized
there was something missing between tourists and our local
people...” (Pak Gede Astana Jaya)
You’re welcome to join us for a walk around Green School
and help support our initiative. All funds from the Green
School Tour go towards to support the Local Scholars
Programme and Kul Kul Connection programs that have
been enriching learning opportunities to our children.
We’re all looking forward to see you there!

their waste production with the purpose of SHIFTing habits.
The month will be comprised of various activities to help
raise awareness about the waste we produce and practices
we choose to manage it.
During the month, all students and teachers will visit local
dump sites and waste management facilities on island,
complete a personal home waste audit and action plan, as
well as bring in waste from home to be used for a number of
sorting purposes, highlighting what can and cannot be
recycled as well as used for discussions on how we can
reduce or choose products that can be recycled. More

GS GREEN GENERATION MEETS DR. Z IMBARDO
Tuesday afternoon, GS Green Generation and the HS advanced psychology students had our very own
special discussion group with renowned psychologist and author Dr. Philip Zimbardo. He was an
incredible kindhearted, knowledgeable, and insightful man who answered each of our questions relating
psychology to climate change (and climate change denial) with eloquence. In the class that caused the
creation of GS Green Generation we related environmental changes and psychology by studying Dr.
Zimbardo’s The Lucifer Effect (along with Naomi Klein’s text). It was an honor to meet him in person after
watching so many of his online presentations!
