Statement of Intent

We are. All of us living on earth are architecture at its best. We are a beautifully crafted creation from skin to bone, with every programatic problem solved in the finest, most efficient way. We all have the desire to create things. We want to make things better than they are right now. We want to change so many things around us all of the time. We want to make things that we can see, whether that means the creation of something static or the creation of movement. As architects, we have the chance to design the world in which we will live, work, and move. We are trained to see, visualize, plan, and draw the changes that we hope for, but We have only begun to understand that architecture means much more than the creation of buildings. As I have learned the trade of architecture, I have begun to understand why this is so important to me. I have realized that I design because I was designed. I create because I was created. I am a student of architecture because I am a piece of architecture. I desire to sustain the earth because I am made of the earth. These are the reasons for my desire to serve people in design. These are the reasons that I inately understand that I can change things for the better. Through these connections, I have found that WE ARECHITECTURE.

BARCELONA. 22@

Urban design and planning is one of the most challenging, most important parts of design today in the realm of architecture. “Viento. Lluvia. Sol” is our design reaction to the needs of the 22@ commu-nity. Buildings in Barcelona, unlike those in which we live in America, are not conditioned. Therefore, our goal in developing “Viento. Lluvia. Sol.” is to provide a community center to revamp the block, and give the community a system of buildings that actually gives back energy to the existing grid.

DESIGN +CLEMSON. S.C.

The Clemson Student Organic farm is growing, and as it grows, it needs more defined spaces to serve different purposes. The goal of our summer design + build studio was to meet their need for a post-harvest washing station that would also provide a means of shade for the marketplace.

ELECTRICCITYRAILWAY.ANDERSON, SC

Page 30: We Architecture Online

Anderson, SC, near Clemson University, is a classic, small southern town. The Electric City Railway is designed to uphold many of these southern traditions by providing outdoor plat-forms to be used for market space. These spaces cascade down-wards towards the platform through the classic brick station.

BATTERY PARK, N.Y.

The Airport of the Future. Designed to sit in Battery Park, New York, The Manhattan (Man-hattan International Airport) is designed to support future hovercraft. Not only does the de-sign define our vision of the future, but it is also designed to spur on the development of technol-ogy. The idea of “Yesterday’s Tomorrow’s” has been absent for decades, but the design of The Manhattan should be inspiration for the revitalization of the designs that break our known boundaries.
