Over the past year, we have been meeting in regions across the country to gather input and engage as many members

as possible as we chart WDN’s course for the next fi ve years. This work will come together at the conference, as we hear

from key leaders about critical trends we need to understand, and explore creative scenarios that will help us collectively

envision the future we want to see.

Movement-Building Learning LabNovember 6, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm, prior to opening activities

Manuel Pastor, who keynoted WDN’s 2013 conference, will be back to engage with members in a daylong pre-conference session focused on movement-building. Members will go deeper on the diff erent components of social movements, hear the stories and perspectives of amazing movement leaders, and engage in conversation about how to support systemic change.

Learning Lab Facilitator Manuel Pastor Manuel Pastor is a renowned professor whose research has focused on the economic, environmental, and social conditions facing low-income urban communities – and the grassroots movements seeking to change those realities.

Learning Lab Speaker Saru Jayaraman As a Co-founder and Director of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC-United), Saru Jayaraman is dedicated to improving wages and working conditions for the 10 million restaurant workers in the United States.

Learning Lab Speaker Vanessa DanielExecutive Director of the Groundswell Fund Vanessa Daniel has worked in social justice movements as a union and community organizer, researcher, freelance journalist, and social justice grantmaker. The Groundswell Fund supports a stronger, more eff ective movement for reproductive justice.

Conference Kick-off with Los CenzontlesEnjoy a lively opening night performance by Los Cenzontles, a local band, nonprofi t organization, music academy, community space for youth and families, and hub for Latino artists.

A Night on the Town: Exploring Oakland and BerkeleyNovember 7On Friday night we will off er two options for getting out into the local area and exploring some of the vibrancy of the East Bay food and culture scene.

Oakland Museum at NightExperience this popular festive night market that includes touring special museum exhibits, live music, and dinner from outdoor gourmet food trucks run by local food entrepreneurs.

Dinner in BerkeleySavor the culinary delights of some of Berkeley’s fi nest restaurants with dinner out in small groups. Sign-up sheets for reserved tables will be available at check-in.

Sunday Capstone Keynote

Elizabeth Warren (invited)Senator Elizabeth Warren has taken on big banks and fi nancial institutions to win historic new fi nancial protections for middle class families. She will share her refl ections on the state of women and families, economic inequality and the role of government, women and leadership, and potential for social change.

Opening Keynote

Angela Glover BlackwellAngela Glover Blackwell is the Founder and President of Bay Area-based PolicyLink, a leading voice for access and opportunity for all low-income people and communities of color, particularly in the areas of health, housing, transportation, infrastructure, and education.

SPEAKERS

Imagine 2030 Facilitator Ellen SprengerEllen Sprenger is a strategist and advocate for human rights and social justice. The Founder and CEO of Spring Strategies, Ellen also served as the executive director of Mama Cash. She is a believer in human potential and our collective ability to solve the problems of our time.

Imagine 2030 Speaker Ian InabaIan Inaba is an accomplished fi lmmaker, organizer, and new media expert. As Executive Director and Co-founder of Citizen Engagement Lab, he helps accelerate and grow new organizing eff orts. He will speak to the changing landscape of technology and advocacy for change, using climate change as one issue lens.

Imagine 2030 Speaker Heather McGheeAs the new President of Demos, Heather McGhee advances policies that enable everyone in America to have an equal say in our democracy and an equal chance in our economy. She will speak to the trends of economic inequality and America’s broken democracy, and needed approaches to address these challenges.

Imagine 2030 Speaker Shayda Edwards NaficyAt Corporate Accountability International, Shayda Nafi cy leads the international campaign to protect democratic water governance, promote the human right to water at the United Nations, and stop the World Bank from promoting water privatization and corporatization. She will speak to trends of corporate power and international governance.

Imagine 2030 Speaker Ai-Jen PooThe Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance and Co-founder of the Make It Work campaign, Ai-Jen Poo has been organizing immigrant women workers since 1996. She will discuss trends around the future of women and work, an aging U.S. population, the power of women’s leadership, and opportunities for new alliances.

SCHEDULEThe conference begins on Thursday, November 6, with registration at 4:00 pm and concludes on Sunday, November 9, at 1:30 pm, after a closing lunch session. A full schedule of conference activities and speakers will be available on our website in September. New and prospective members are encouraged to arrive early for a pre-conference reception at 3:30 pm on Thursday, November 6.

CONFERENCE POLICIESRegistration for the conference is open to WDN members and prospective members. All sessions and meals are limited to registered conference participants or invited conference contributors, with the exception of Thursday afternoon’s welcome reception, which will include invited local community activists and partners. Please respect WDN’s non-solicitation policy.

CONFERENCE COSTS The conference meal package for all attendees is $990 and begins with an opening reception on Thursday afternoon, November 6th, and covers all meals and beverages through lunch on Sunday, November 9th, with the exception of Friday evening’s dinner on the town. Friday evening’s dinner is not included and is the responsibility of each conference attendee.

The registration fee for current members is included in annual membership. The registration fee for prospective members is $750 if received by September 15, or $850 thereafter.

MEMBER RATE: $990 (for the conference meal package)

PROSPECTIVE MEMBER RATE: $1740 if received by September 15, $1840 thereafter (conference meal package plus registration fee)

PRE-CONFERENCE MOVEMENT-BUILDING LEARNING LAB(Thursday, November 6, 10 am – 3 pm): $350 if received by September 15, or$400 thereafter
