Proud Member of the New Tampa Chamber of

Commerce

We have finally done it.

We have created a monthly

magazine that will provide

you with the information you

need and the goings on of

the Wesley Chapel Athletic

Association. In addition, I

will try to provide information

on Pasco County Parks'

issues and concerns, and

how it will affect you and

your child(ren). Included

within this magazine will be

write ups on performances,

congratulations for

championships and

participation, thank you’s to

our many volunteers, and

schedules of upcoming

events and sign-ups.

With 14 programs being

offered to our children so

they can participate, learn

and make friends, we are

by far the largest youth

sports organization in Pasco

County, if not the Tampa Bay

area. You made this happen.

Among the sports offered

are Basketball (spring/fall),

Baseball (spring/fall), Softball

(spring/fall), Flag Football,

Flag Cheer, Tackle Football,

Tackle Cheer, Lacrosse,

Recreational Soccer, Travel

Baseball, Competitive

Softball, Competitive Soccer,

and Competitive Lacrosse.

We try to provide it all 'under

one roof', to make it easy

for you and your children, as

well as to make it affordable.

The sport directors and

coaches are all working

WCAAhard to make your child’s

experience noteworthy

and eventful. A lot of hard

work goes into these sports

and as an all-volunteer

organization, it is done for

the pure joy of seeing kids

play and have fun. So take

some time to thank those

responsible. They may not

seek the accolades but it is

always nice to know your

efforts are appreciated.

Thank you for being part

of our family and supporting

all we do.

See you at the fields.

Sincerely,

Tom FitzSimons

President, WCAA

The WCAA is looking for pictures of our first 12 years in existance of coaches, other volunteers, registered players and their families enjoying themselves within the programs. We are trying to create a documented history with a video collage and picture repository. Scanned copies with a small caption of what sport, team and year, who is in the picture and what went on, can be sent to Matt Morris at [email protected]. Thank you! We look forward to a rich history of photos from all who have been involved.

The WCAA is operated entirely by volunteers. WCAA volunteers serve in a variety of ways, but most of our volunteers get started by coaching or assisting a coach on one of our several hundred teams across the seven unique sports we offer. In addition to coaching, there are several other important volunteer positions needed, such as working in our concession stands or participating in one of our field maintenance day events to help keep our park looking beautiful. A few of our volunteers choose to become more involved in the operations of the WCAA by serving on our Board of Directors. The WCAA has about 30 board positions responsible for the governance of all WCAA programs. Several of the board positions are allocated to operating the individual sports programs the WCAA manages, but there are other

WCAA board positions responsible for technology platforms, sponsorships, marketing and communications activities, in addition to collaborating with Pasco County officials regarding a variety of matters. The WCAA is always looking for new volunteers willing to lend their talents and passions to serving the youth of our community. If you are interested in WCAA volunteer opportunities or have questions, please send us an e-mail to: [email protected]. Thank you! Your help matters more than you know!

Become a sponsor of

a team With over 3300 participating families in hundreds of teams in the various WCAA sports during an athletic year, the WCAA needs considerable support from the community both to maintain the quality of its programs and facilities and to make youth sporting opportunities more available to our less fortunate neighbors. The need for support from sponsors is particularly acute as cuts in Parks & Recreations budgets result in increasing costs to youth sports programs.

Sponsor Opportunites Association Level Sponsorship at the association level ($3,000) guarantees the sponsor their corporate name on a banner at a minimum of three game fields and their corporate name on a team t-shirt in the three selected sports of the sponsor, and recognition on the web site. their corporate name on a banner at a minimum of two game fields and their corporate name on a team t-shirt in the two selected sports of the sponsor, and recognition on the web site. WCAA Tampa Tribe Girls Win First Place at the Southern

College Showcase

WCAA Tampa Tribe girls lacrosse competitive travel team is proud to have reached yet another goal in its lacrosse program. Sixteen Tribe players, including Shaylagh Murphy of Seven Oaks and Angela Melillo and Nicole Palermo of Meadow Pointe, recently traveled to Pineville,

North Carolina to compete in The Southern College Showcase. The

Southern College Showcase is a recruiting tournament that allows coaches the opportunity to get a closer look at players they already know about, see new players, and to also keep a watch on rising talent for future lacrosse seasons. “After six years of building the Tribe girls program, we’ve reached a milestone by being able to provide this opportunity for our players to be seen and recruited by college coaches”, said Assistant Program Director Rene Diaz. “We are proud of all the girls who played in

the tournament, they were fierce on the field, but most importantly, they played as a team,” said Head Coach Mike Diaz. It paid off because the Tampa Tribe placed first in their high school division and were potentially seen by 21 different DII and DIII college lacrosse coaches. The WCAA Tribe program

has grown to be a quality girls lacrosse program and as it continues to build on the quality of student/ athlete it has in its program so

will its search for new opportunities to meet these players’ needs. WCAA provides its dedicated Tribe coaches with continuing education and recruits former college players to coach. Corri Smeak, a former defensive player for a DI college is the Assistant Tribe Coach and brings experience and fun to the program. Tampa Tribe also hosts instructional clinics conducted by college coaches to help players increase their field knowledge and learn what college coaches look for

in players. Tampa Tribe players compete in quality tournaments with an elevated level of play, which is a great way to take their

game to the next level. Tribe members and their parents also benefit from informational seminars that explain the college recruiting process and are put in touch with college recruiting professionals. For more information

about Tampa Tribe or other WCAA lacrosse programs go to:www.tampatribe.org or [email protected]. •

Wesley Chapel Athletic Association opened registration for the boys and girls Warriors recreational lacrosse program and the high school lacrosse club programs in November. Both program seasons run from January to May 2013.

What is Warriors Lacrosse?

Warriors recreational lacrosse program exists to give a lacrosse experience to boys U-9 to U-15 (middle school) and girls youth (K – 5th grade) and middle school (6-8th grade) by teaching foundational skills as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. Warriors compete against other local area teams.

What is High School Club Lacrosse?

Wesley Chapel High School Girls and Boys Club Program and Wiregrass High School Boys program is open to beginner and experienced Pasco County High School students who desire to learn lacrosse skills, “team work” and to compete against other area high schools.

LAXING FOR FUN IS ABOUT… BYOE (Bring Your Own Equipment or borrow

some from us.) GET ON THE FIELD AND PLAY, SHOOT OR JUST LEARN TO PASS

AND CATCH!

What is the Cost? The cost for boys U-9 is

$125 per season. The cost for boys U-11, U-13 and U-15 (middle school) is $185 per season. The cost for Youth girls (K-5th) is $125 per season. The cost for Middle School girls (6-8th) is $185 per season. The cost for Wesley Chapel High School boys and girls is $235 per season. The cost for Wiregrass High School boys is $235 per season.

Why is There a Cost Difference?

Typically the older boys teams in our area are able to play more games because there are more teams; which means higher officiating expenses. Also, uniform

costs are higher for older participants. •

TARSA TARSA stands for Tampa Area Recreational Scheduling Association. It is a scheduling organization for about 150 teams and 16 clubs in the U14, U16 & U18 coed age divisions. It is difficult to sustain a full internal recreational program in these age brackets and all the clubs in the area have the same

problem. TARSA handles scheduling for these teams so they can play teams from other clubs to have a 12-14 game season. Half the games are home and half away but in the local area. The season also begins a month earlier. Cost is $195 for TARSA teams as they will need both home and away jerseys and have increased referee fees.
