Watseka First United Methodist Church ‘Moving with Jesus into the community to share God’s Love’
Pastor’s Note . . . Becoming an unstuck church calls everyone to trust God and to do their very best. God is calling our church to become unstuck and to chart a new course for the future. Our destination has not changed. However, our course in getting there must. Will you be a part of helping your church become un-stuck? Three major endeavors are beginning to take place to encourage and em-power our church to navigate new waters that lie ahead. The first is the for-mation of a visioning team. The team has already begun to meet. Their work consists of focused prayer, studying the community, listening for the Spirit through the Scripture, one another, the church family and community, ex-panding their understanding of what it means to be missional, and eventually writing. It is highly important that each of us hold the visioning team and process in prayer. Those serving on the team are: Deanna Knapp, Ashley Clifton, Diann Peabody, Soni Knapp, Tony Norrick, Amy Dickte, Lea Sieveking, Hannah Mitchello, and myself. Secondly, we are encouraging the practice of prayer for our church and mission by our church family. On Easter Sunday we passed out a pocket prayer for daily use. Other resources and opportunities to pray will be shared over the weeks and months ahead. Please pray for our church to become un-stuck. Thirdly, our next worship series is titled “Charting a New Course.” This series will call each one to consider what it will take to chart a new course for the church. Plan to join us for these services. How is God calling you to help chart a new course? God-sized opportunities are just ahead. You can find the weekly foundational Scriptures and themes below to help you prepare for worship. Finally, I would like to say what wonderful worship we enjoyed Easter. Thank you to all those who helped us celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Your ministry was a blessing to all. With You on the Journey

Sharing God’s Love
Join us Saturday, May 18, as we take God’s love
into the community.
We will be providing a free pancake breakfast
for the community at
Lakeview Park starting
at 8 a.m. We could use
your assistance through:
coming early to set up;
cooking and serving from 8 – 10 a.m.; clean-up;
serving as greeters to those who come.
For more information, please call the church of-
fice or Kim Onnen, 815-954-7094.
The next day, Sunday, May 19, we will be taking
carnations and chocolates to staff members at area
nursing homes. You are invited to join us for this wit-
ness event as well.
We will meet at the church at 1 p.m. Come bless
those who help take care of our friends and family
members.
Parable study to resume
The Chapel Sunday School group will resume its
study of the parables of Jesus on
Sunday, April 28. Anyone is
welcome to come to this class
on Sunday morning at 9:15,
even if they did not participate
in the earlier sessions. The
group will have a “Parable
Wrap-up” on May 19 and then not meet again until
September.
The Pharisee and the Tax Collector, Parable of
the Rich Fool, and The Rich Man and Lazarus are the
topics for Sundays April 28 through May 12. If you
have questions please contact Diann Peabody at 815

has provided insight and good discussion about such
stories as The Good Samaritan, The Prodigal Son,
The Lost Sheep, and The Unforgiving Servant.

Women's Annual
Mother-Daughter
Celebration will be
Wednesday, May 8 at 6
p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share. Table ser-
vice will be provided. Please invite a friend!
We are excited to be hosting Interlude Quartet as
our entertainment for the evening! Quartet members are
Mark Servos, Nathan Gross, Ben Light, and Ben Mills.
They received the honor of ILL District Champion in Oc-
tober 2018.
UMW Meeting Planned -
United Methodist Women next regular meeting will
be Saturday, May 18 at 1:30 p.m. in the Fellowship
Hall. All women of the church are invited to come and
enjoy a time of fellowship.
Children’s Activity Bags available Jalyn Newman has made a number of activity bags
for children attending worship services. These bags are
available in the narthex for anyone with young children
who needs something to occupy them during worship.
The bags contain a small snack, crayons, coloring page,
“Bingo with Bob” activity page and stickers.
We thank Jalyn for providing this service.
Pocket Prayer for congregation This small “Pocket Prayer” is being given to mem-
bers of the congregation. It is patterned after a prayer by
Max Lucado. If you haven’t yet received one, please
check in the church office or look for them on Sunday
mornings.
The idea for a congregational prayer came from the
church meeting on March 17, 2019. The purpose of the
prayer is to prayerfully discern the vision for our church
and our mission.
As we join in prayer we remember that the power of
prayer is in the One who hears it and not the one who
says it. Our prayers do make a difference!
Gracious God,
You are good.
You know our hearts
Heal us and forgive us.
Help us find our way.

Watseka Area Food Pantry -
April has been a busy month
transitioning to a computer sys-
tem from Eastern Illinois Food-
bank. It has been challenging for
us volunteers who are computer
“insecure!” Thanks so much to
Carol Drew for her patience try-
ing to train us.
Also, during April the Special
Ed Class came and bagged
items for the food pantry, a stu-
dent from KCC volunteered for
three hours for class, and the Illinois Indian RV
Group came in to help one morning.
During March we served 103 families—230 be-
ing adults and 139 being children.
For May special items are cleaning supplies
and paper products—but all items are appreciat-
ed.
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank delivery is Tues-
day, May 7 at 8 a.m. We get back from the Midwest
Foodbank Friday, May 10 around 11 a.m. As al-
ways, volunteers are most welcome to help unload.
