We are good partners

Testimonials

"Our collaboration with WaterAid is a true win-win. Not only are we raising funds, but our customers feel good about their contribution. It also helps shape our image, both externally and internally.”Katarina Hempe, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, H&M.

“I think the £1 million we’ve raised in Whitbread is being more wisely spent than I could ever have imagined. The transparency of the spend and the value that’s being driven out of the pounds we generate is absolutely 100%.”Simon Ewins, Director, Whitbread.

“WaterAid is an excellent example of value for money.” UK Government’s Department for International Development report on WaterAid partnership, 2010

Timeline of a Partnership

Page 12: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

Our vision for the Partnership

• Phase one: The Challenge• We ask UK radio presenters to take a Water challenge• They ask their listeners to sponsor them

• And the UK Government match all monies raised

• Phase two: The delivery• WaterAid take the “winning” presenter to Africa to see them deliver one

of the projects they have raised money for

• Phase three: The thank you• We run a campaign thanking all listeners for their support, telling them

that we have completed the project, and asking if they would like to support WaterAid in the future

What we are trying to achieve?

The Water Challenge

• Understanding

• Involvement

• Fundraising

• Great radio

“Tell me and I’ll forget;

show me and I may remember;

involve me and I’ll understand”

One of our inspirations

Page 17: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

What might the challenge be?

Put yourselves in their shoes

• No showers, baths or washing for a week

• Carry 20 litres of water for 4 hours per day

• Walk 6 miles each day to and from work

• No running water to drink for a week• Presenters have to fill up bottles and carry with them

• Presenters can only fetch water once a day, from a specific location

Page 18: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

What might the challenge be?

Water related activities

• Broadcast from a bath

• Sponsored shower (with a friend)

• Sponsored swim – river, sea, lake or just a pool

• Sponsored sail

• Sponsored kayak / raft / narrow boat

Page 19: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

What might the challenge be?

Join a WaterAid activity

• WaterAid 200 takes place on June 16th 2012

• We will have supporters on each of the highest 200 hills & mountains in the UK

Fundraising

What your presenters ask for is up to them …..

… how they’re asking for it …

Page 21: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

They won’t be on their own

Page 22: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

And as part of that support

• We will take the “winning” presenter to see the work they funded

Page 23: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

In Malawi• Malawi: 14.9 million population

• 3 million without water supply• 6.5 million without sanitation• 92 deaths per thousand under 5’s

Page 24: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

We do have a target

• One years work in Malawi costs us £1,800,000

• We are looking for a partner who can help us raise £500,000• And DFID match this with £500,000

• And the partnership also means.....

• The £400,000 we can raise from our own supporters• Is matched too by the government

• So your support could earn us another £900,000

As part of the Thank You

• We are planning a September radio campaign

• To thank the listeners for their support

• To tell them what they have achieved

• To ask them if they would like to become donors

Page 28: Wateraid and uk commercial radio a potential partnership 10.01.12 v.7

www.wateraid.org

Planning the September Thank You Campaign

• Our fundraising ratio is 4:1

• The means for every £1 we spend we raise £4

• We are planning to spend £250,000 on the September Thank You campaign

• Based on our target of £1,000,000 for the challenge campaign
