EKJH, waste management company from Lappeenranta, Finland, chose Flowrox for their new waste water plant control system. Flowrox automation solution ensures even flow to the treatment plant and Flowrox Malibu monitoring system collects selected data from pumping process.

Process data is represented in online Malibu portal, which is an exact replica of the real station. Now EKJH can remotely monitor pumping process and is automatically alerted before any values exceed normal state. Flowrox Malibu is also used to collect data for environmental reporting.

OUR CUSTOMER: Wastewater treatment plant, Poland

Czajka is the largest wastewater treatment plant in Warsaw, Poland, was established in 2011 in the north-east of the capital of Warsaw. It was designed for a population of around 2.1 million people. It has capacity of 515,000m³/day and daily produces 192 tons of sewage sludge. Czajka improves the water quality of the river Vistula and the Baltic Sea and is considered to be one of the most important environmental protection measures in Europe.

20 Big Flowrox Valves Have the Flow Under Control

Flowrox pinch valves PV 500 E01 are successfully controlling the sludge flow in a Polish waste water plant. Twenty electrically actuated valves were delivered in 2011 to Poland through Danish engineering company Krüger A/S and Flowrox representative Scanrox A/S.

Czajka is one of Europe’s biggest wastewater treatment plants situated in Warsaw, Poland. The plant has the capacity to process wastewater of 2 million people. Area of the plant is 1,2 km wide and 800 m long which equals to the size of 74 football fields.

After six pre-settling tanks there are ten aeration pools where the main biological process takes place. Each pool is seven meters deep and contains 37 225 m3 of the medium. After aeration pools the wastewater is pumped to the secondary settling tanks where the biological sludge settles to the bottom. From there, it flows to the collection chambers through DN700 stainless pipes. Just before the chambers the pipes are coned down to DN500 to fit the valves. Flowrox valves are controlling the sludge flow which must be as slow as possible to prevent mixing of the medium. From the collection chambers the medium is gently pumped back to the starting point of the process as the mass contains the cleaning bacteria.

Flowrox valves have been working without any problems since commissioning. Not even a single sleeve has been replaced in 9 years of operation. The end customer as well as the engineering company have been very satisfied with the operation of the Flowrox valves.

OUR CUSTOMER: Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Deer Island Waste Water Treatment Plant (also known as Deer Island Sewage Treatment Plant) is located on Deer Island, one of the Boston Harbor Islands in Boston Harbor. The plant is operated by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). Deer Island is the second largest sewage treatment plant in the United States. The plant is a key part of the program to protect Boston Harbor from pollution from sewer systems in eastern Massachusetts.

Flowrox Engineers Extend Stator Lifetime by Four Times

Deer Island found with competitor’s pumps that every time they needed to replace the stator, they also needed to replace the rotor. Since the start-up of Flowrox PC pumps in May 2014, the plant has only replaced two rotors. The operators appreciate how quietly the Flowrox PC pumps run. Flowrox PC pumps operate at a lower RPM (140 RPM vs. 300 RPM) than competitive pump while producing a significantly greater average flow rate (248 GPM average vs 172 GPM average).

Flowrox stators were lasting 5-8 weeks, which was an improvement from the competition but not by much. The plant asked Flowrox to extend stator lifetime. The plant worked with Flowrox engineers to alter the stator durometer which resulted in extending stator lifetime from 5–8 weeks to 6-8 months.

Annual maintenance and maintenance cost savings are approaching $100K over competing progressive cavity pumps. Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant is extremely satisfied by operation of Flowrox PC pumps.
