Water Scarcity in Cyprus

Where is Cyprus?
(West Asia)
How Does Cyprus Use Their Water?Once you get to the
‘Recycled Water’ slide and press button, then you can press it!
What are the Main Water Issues?
• Cyprus depends on rainfall for most of their water sources. Time and again, droughts occur. This is a big problem as when there is a drought, the rain does not fall and the water demand increases. Cyprus citizens can’t determine how long a drought is going to last, so they will not know how long it will be until they get some rain.
Water Management Cyprus has a water management system which helps them keep their water sustainable and useful.
Cyprus Climatic Information
In Cyprus, the temperature is variable. In January, the temperature is at it’s lowest at 5.8 degrees. The average temperature is then slightly increased with a peak in July and August when the temperature gets to the max (37.5 degrees)! The temperature then falls through out the rest of the year. Due to the variability during the months, there are a lot of significant changes.

Water DamsOver time, 57 large dams have been built in Cyprus to store water. This has helped for when droughts occur.
Here are 4 main dams.
Recycled WaterAs shown on a slide previously, most of the water usage is for agriculture. Recycled water is mainly used for this. This is very useful as the recycled water is put to good use and more fresh water can be used for other purposes. Please click
