Make sure it is deep enough to dive. Only dive off the diving board unless an adult says the water is deep enough somewhere else.

Do not eat food or
chew gum while you
are swimming you
could choke!
![Page 5: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Don’t push or jump on others. You
could accidentally hurt yourself or someone else!

Pool toys can be fun to play with, but they
shouldn’t be used as life saving tools. The toys can
lose their air and float away.

Check the temperature of the water. Water that is too cold can
shock your body making your blood pressure and heart rate go up. It can also make your muscles
slow and hard to swim.

Place barriers around pools so that little children
cannot get into the pool by themselves. Help save your little brothers and sisters!

The
beach
can be
fun, but
you
need to
be safe!
Rip Currents
![Page 13: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Don’t swim too
close to piers. If
the water moves
too fast you
could hit a rock
or the pillars.
![Page 14: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
![Page 15: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Waves are strong
and can push you
deep under the
water. Always stay
close to an adult
and head to shore
if they are too
rough!
![Page 16: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Riptides or rip currents are strong
and can pull swimmers away from
shore. If you are caught in one
swim parallel to the shore until you
are out and then swim back to
shore.
![Page 17: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Why it is
important to
be safe
around water:
![Page 18: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/18.jpg)
People are not like fish. We need
air to breath and if we get too
much water in our lungs we could
drown.
![Page 19: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/19.jpg)
Drowning is the
second most
common cause of
death in kids
under the age of
14.
![Page 20: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/20.jpg)
Know your limits.
Your body could
have cramps,
where your
muscles have
spasms and
hurt. If this
happens sit out
and rest for a
little bit.
![Page 21: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
Water Safety is very
important!
![Page 22: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
Reach or Throw:If someone is drowning and close to the edge you can reach out and grab them, but make sure you don’t lean too far! If they are too far away throw them something to float with like an empty bottle or a life vest.
![Page 23: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
Don’t get in! If there are two
people stuck in the water
then the lifeguard has to
save two people. No one
untrained should EVER get
in after a victim. This is
putting yourself in danger.
![Page 24: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
In case of emergency:
Check their pulse for 10 seconds. If
the victim has no pulse perform CPR
until proper help arrives.
CPR is as easy as C-A-B.
30 compressions.
Push hard and fast
on the center of the
victim’s chest.
Tilt the victim’s
head back and lift
the chin to open
the airway.
Give two mouth-
to-mouth
breaths
![Page 25: Water power point for health](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022062419/55ab02201a28aba14e8b467b/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
If there is not a lifeguard
have someone call 911
and try to help the person
out of the water. If there
is a lifeguard around let
them know of the
accident. Then you can
call 911.
