Northwestern University is a private institution founded in 1851 to serve the Northwest Territory, anarea that now includes the states of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and parts ofMinnesota. In 1853 the founders purchased a 379-acre tract of land on the shore of Lake Michigan 12miles north of Chicago. They established a campus and developed the land near it, naming thesurrounding town Evanston in honor of one of the University's founders, John Evans. After completingits first building in 1855, Northwestern began classes that fall with two faculty members and 10

Northwestern has three campuses. Two campuses are located on Lake Michigan: a 240-acre campus inEvanston, the first suburb north of Chicago, and a 25-acre campus in Chicago. The third campus islocated in Doha, Qatar.

Carbon Offset
This is the sixth year we offered conference participants the option of offsetting the carbon dioxidepollution incurred by travel. We are continuing to work withNativeEnergy (www.nativeenergy.com),a privately held Native American energy company to do this. Registrants had the option of choosing tooffset their carbon pollution with either wind energy or farm methane. Your carbon offsets allowNativeEnergy to build Native American, farmer-owned, and charitable purpose renewable energyprojects to create social, economic, and environmental benefits.
Fifty-nine Waterkeepers contributed $460 for Carbon OffsetWaterkeeper Alliance will send a checktoNativeEnergy on behalf of these participants after the conference.
