Water for life
Water supply is essential to the future
of rural communities.
For more than 30 years, we have been
committed to developing efficient,
long-lasting solutions with our local
partners.
In 1975, Marc Vergnet, an early pioneer in sustainable
development, invented a hand pump which soon be-
came the market benchmark due to its user-friendliness
and long-lasting, robust design. Currently, 80 000 of
these pumps are supplying water to 40 million people
worldwide.
With 30 years of field operation experience, our pragma-
tic and visionary approach has drastically changed rural
water supply. Our knowledge of rural populations, based
upon experience and dialogue, led us to develop original
solutions adapted to local needs. Moreover, our know-
how is always available to clients: our support services
and staff is the key to our long-lasting facilities.
Through 25 subsidiaries and partners, Vergnet
Hydro has an international presence operating
throughout Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Pacific
and the Caribbean.
The Wind and Solar Energy divisions of Vergnet Group
also design products for the unique conditions of the-
se regions. As a result, these three divisions -- Hydro,
Solar and Wind - work together in synergy to create
innovative R&D and a three-pronged approach to local
sustainable environmental development.
30-years of experience in rural water supply
Vergnet Hydro is much more than a product supplier.
Our mission is to be a long-term partner and to commit
ourselves for the lifetime of the project.
With over 30 years of experience with end users, we are
a driving force for rural water supply projects.
Each Vergnet water point brings a real change in local
daily life. The change goes far beyond a simple ac-
cess to water: it gives new prospects to the community.
Meeting the VLOM (Village Level Operation and Main-
tenance) requirements involves the local population in
the maintenance of the products, thus empowering and
educating our local users.
In addition, outsourced management makes water
points profitable, supports the development of new
local projects, and promotes the private sector in these
rural areas.
Finally, all the projects led by Vergnet Hydro have
another deep social impact: by enhancing local resour-
ces they fight against continuing rural depopulation,
poverty and health hazards.
Acting for sustainable development
Water,a source of developmentIn 1998, the school of Gomoa Somaya village was
renovated thanks to the profits made by a Vergnet
water point, which was managed by a local water point
committee. Children are still being educated in this
school today.
This is what we call sustainable development.
Long-term partnershipIn the Ivory Coast, our pumps have been operational since
1976. During regular maintenance, it was discovered that
some parts needed to be replaced, but they were no lon-
ger produced. Upon request, Vergnet Hydro manufactured
a new series so that the pumps could continue to work for
many years. This is what we call long-term partnership.

Innovation is paramount at Vergnet.
We grant our R&D division significant resources, and
always focus on our core belief; all our products
must be as simple as possible and suit perfectly the
users’ needs, as well as, the local conditions.
Our HPV pump offers a complete breakthrough in water
supply technology. Drastically different from conventio-
nal models, it is the simplest pump in the world. Its
design was inspired by nature; like a heart, it features
rubber skin and soft pipes, offering high performance,
reliability and ease of servicing.
Our skilled, innovative engineers dedicate themselves
to improving the standard of living in rural areas. We do
not aim to adapt products from industrial countries but
to design new and efficient solutions for local needs. Be
it hydraulic gear, wind or solar power, or creating ma-
terials to meet the most stringent requirements...we do
everything we can to create highly functional products
through simple and innovative solutions.
Our water supply facilities are designed to work for many
decades thanks to their long-lasting, robust design and to
long-term management planning.
Why is our pump the most lasting in the market? Because it
is so simple! First, the wearing parts are all within reach and
can easily be changed by local users within a few minutes
with a simple tool that comes with the pump. Secondly, all
the parts are corrosion-free: either elastomer or polyethylene.
Ten times lighter than conventional models, our pump can be
set up or removed by two people and requires no jack. Some
components are produced locally. Finally, pump maintenance
is minimal requiring only one inspection a year!
As a long-term partner, Vergnet initiated a new and ef-
ficient concept: outsourced management. By making the
water point profitable, it raises the necessary funds to pay
for maintenance year after year. Profitability is achieved
through our key assets: low maintenance costs, affordable
spare parts that are available locally, and an unmatched
maintenance service performed by trained local partners
in more than 35 countries.
Finally, we offer additional solutions, from wind and solar
pumping to tanks and accessories, so that we can always
provide the right solution for any particular circumstance.
