God of Grace and God of Glory #5771. God of grace and God of glory,on the people pour thy power;crown thine ancient church’s story, bring her bud to glorious flower.Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour.

2. Lo! the hosts of evil round usscorn thy Christ, assail his ways!Fears and doubts too long have bound us;free our hearts to work and praise.Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, for the living of these days.

3. Cure thy children’s warring madness, bend our pride to thy control;shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal, lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

4. Save us from weak resignationto the evils we deplore;let the search for thy salvationbe our glory evermore.Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving thee whom we adore, serving thee whom we adore.

We Are the Church (v.1,2&4) #558REFRAIN:I am the church! You are the church! We are the church together! All who follow Jesus, all around the world!Yes, we’re the church together!

1. The church is not a building,the church is not a steeple,the church is not a resting place,the church is a people.(Refrain)

2. We’re many kinds of people, with many kinds of faces, all colors and all ages, too, from all times and places.(Refrain)

4. And when the people gather, there’s singing and there’s praying, there’s laughing and there’s cryingsometimes, all of it saying:(Refrain)

Go Forth for God #6701. Go forth for God, go to the world in peace;be of good courage, armed with heavenly grace,in God’s good Spirit, daily to increase, till in the kingdom we see face to face.

2. Go forth for God, go to the world in love;strengthen the faint, give courage to the weak;help the afflicted; richly from aboveGod’s love supplies the grace and power we seek.

3. Go forth for God, go to the world in strength;hold fast the good, be urgent for the right;render to no one evil; Christ at lengthshall overcome all darkness with his light.

4. Go forth for God, go to the world in joy,to serve God’s people every day and hour, and serving Christ, our every gift employ, rejoicing in the Holy Spirit’s power.

SermonOutline

Focus: God calls us out of comfort zones and into places where we can be of most use to God’s plan for our lives. Although we may be reluctant at times, God continues to invite us to our savvy and positions to correct injustice. I) Troy Polamalu “Never Not Working” He is at the: grocery store, golf range, car wash, dentist office and theater! Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, and I also am working” John 5:17 Reflecting back on a difficult time and seeing now the hand of God operatedII) Esther didn’t sign up for stopping an impending genocide facing the Jews (Esther 4) Her cousin and guardian, Mordecai encourages Esther to live out her mission Deepest identity is one of God’s own people (v. 8) Dangerous to live as a follower of the Lord (v. 11) God will prevail without our cooperation, but our salvation needs a yes (v. 14) We have been blessed with certain positions for this very reason (v. 14)III) Esther’s Response: How to live out her identity as a follower of the Lord Asked for her people for support by fasting (v. 16) Yielded to live for a greater purpose (v. 16) Worked a plan to approach the KingIV) Why is it that God’s name never appears in Esther? When God seems hidden, is this an opportunity to show our loyalty and trust? Wesley “The name of God is not found in this book: but the finger of God is, directing so many minute events for the deliverance of his people,” Did God not want to be associated with the outcome? (9:5) Barnes: “After seeing how the victim had become the victimizer, God preferred to keep his name out of the credits.”V) How do we live our identity as resident aliens for Jesus?
