QUALIFICATIONS:

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Knowledge and experience applying federal and state regulations pertaining to wastewater

treatment and collections.

2. Knowledge and experience operating and maintaining wastewater treatment, disinfection and

biosolids equipment.

3. Ability and experience troubleshooting operational problems and acting quickly and

decisively to bring systems back to normal state.

4. Ability and experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with

those encountered in the course of work and ability to communicate effectively both orally

and in writing.

5. Ability and experience analyzing data, drawing accurate conclusions, recording findings, and

making appropriate operational changes.

6. Ability and experience using computer software applications related to the work: SCADA,

spreadsheet, word processing and maintenance management systems.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS/LICENSURE

1. A valid Oregon Drivers License is required and acceptable driving record at the time of hire.

2. Employee shall possess and retain minimum Grade 3 certification in Wastewater Treatment.

The City of Myrtle Point will consider applicants with less than Grade 3 certification

provided they actively pursue obtaining a Grade 3 certificate.

Job Title: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Department: Public Works Reports to: Public Works Director FLSA Status: Nonexempt Approved: August 15th , 2011 GENERAL DESCRIPTION Oversees and manages the operation and maintenance of the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day operation of the wastewater treatment plant remains in compliance with state and federal regulations and the permit under which the treatment plant operates (to the extent capable). SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Reports to and receives administrative direction from the Public Works Director. Coordinates with Relief Operator and public works employees assigned to wastewater treatment plant operations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include, but are not exclusively limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned.

federal requirements. Collect samples and identify concentrations of chemical, physical or biological

characteristics of wastewater as required by local state and federal regulations.

Keep accurate records and files and submit in a timely manner all required state and federal reports.

Monitor, record and report data concerning operations of wastewater treatment facilities.

QUALIFICATION To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Passing a pre-employment drug screening is required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operation and construction. Working knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to collect accurate samples and to perform the necessary chemical,

physical or biological tests. Computer Literacy

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and

memos. Ability to write detailed correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A valid State of Oregon Motor Vehicles Drivers license is required. Employee shall possess and retain a Level III state certification in Wastewater

Treatment, and at least a Level I certification in Water Treatment. Employee will be encouraged to continue with higher level certifications as deemed warranted by the department director.
