The US Census- What’s New• Decennial Census

– 10 short questions– Areas with high concentrations of Spanish-

speaking residents may receive a bilingual (English/Spanish) form.

• American Community Survey (ACS)– Is an ongoing survey that collects detailed

population and housing information– Is a separate part of the 2010 Census program – Some households will receive both the ACS and

the 2010 Census this year – Response to both is required by law

Financial Impact

The 2010 Census will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for things like:– Hospitals – Job training centers – Schools – Senior centers – Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects – Emergency services

Demographic Opportunities• 6th Fastest Growing County since 2000

– 4th fastest growing between 1990 & 2000

• Since 2000, fastest growing Hispanic population in 5-County Milwaukee Metro

• In 2007, 4th highest per capita personal income

• West Bend has the 4th highest unemployment rate – County rate has doubled in past year
