Take a moment to imagine this . . .

What if people in our church could live out their God-given dreams without money being their limiting factor?

What would happen if our families became able to fund God’s work like never before?

How incredible would it be to strengthen families and improve marriages in our community.

Vacation Time and Church Giving – Have you given it any thought? You really should! Have you ever thought that summertime is a time when you should not only be generous in ways to bless yourself and your family, but it might be a good idea to be generous in our faithfulness and giving back to God? Unfortunately, churchgoers often forget about their giving and tithing in the summer while traveling and vacationing. It is a kind of “out of sight, out of mind” mistake that far too many make. We get focused on the time of year as a time of extravagance. You know, we spend the extra night at the beach or splurge for the all-you-can eat seafood. Yet, we somehow forget about God’s extravagant love for us and our faithfulness to God’s ongoing work in the world, even in summer. This summer we encourage you to keep God in sight. Use the summer not only as a time of becoming joy-filled and re-charged in God’s Spirit, but also as a time to be blessed as you are faithful in giving to what God is still doing as we take our vacations. Here are a few ways to do this:

Plan ahead – place next week’s offering with this week’s if you plan to be gone.

Use mail – Did you know you could mail your giving to the church office on weeks you are away? Sure, you can! WMUMC, 38 Hoopes Road, Newport News, VA 23602

Let your bank do the work for you – if you bank on-line, you can have your bank write a check and send it to the church. You can set this up to be done on a regular basis.

Consider our E-Giving program for the summer months. You can learn more about this program at the E-Giving link on our website or QR code on the bulletin.

Thank you for being faithful! Enjoy summer!

A Note About Our Altars: As a way to help people encounter God, particularly by reflecting on worship service themes, our church’s Altars have been designed with symbols and art on a weekly basis. The designs flow from prayer, scripture meditation and conversations with the pastors. Sometimes lighting and distance make the details difficult to see, so we invite you to come have a closer look before or after the service. It might help to ask yourself, “what does this display say about who God is, who I am, and my relationship with God.” If you want to know more, or see how you can be involved, please see Linda McLawhorn (Sanctuary) or Linda Carrithers (Lampstand).

Free Firewood: Wood for fireplace or stoves is

available in the wooded area, between large parking

lot and Wells Road, near the metal building. Hard-

wood logs available for pick up. It can be used in a

fireplace or wood stove after it’s

split. After Monday, August 4th, it is

expected to be hauled away. You

Household Prayer: Morning

Lord Jesus Christ, as you met your disciples just after daybreak on the beach, meet us at the dawning of this new day. As you filled their nets with fish, fill our lives with love and grace, more than we can ask or imagine. In your holy name we pray. Amen.

8:30 I Am With You

Habegger

I am with you, says the Father; through the floods I calm and keep.

Though the swelling waves surround you, I surround the waters deep.

Fear not, loved one; feel My presence. You will never be alone.

Trust Me, loved one; you are precious. You are Mine My very own.

I am with you, says the Savior, even to the age’s end.

Never leaving, nor forsaking, I’m your ever present Friend.

Fear not, loved one; hear My comfort; none can pluck you from My hand. Trust Me, loved one; I am constant;

none can change what I have planned.

I am with you, says the Spirit, there is nowhere you can flee.

Neither height nor depth can hide you, every place is home to Me.

Fear not, loved one, hear my witness.

You are God’s own child and heir. Trust Me, loved one, hear My whisper,

deep within you, I am here.

Come be with me, says the Master, greeting hopeful, homesick eyes.

I was with you through your journey; be with Me in paradise.

Trust Me, loved one, know My promise;

I will surely quickly come. Trust Me, loved one, know My purpose,

I will bring you safely home.

Household Prayer: Evening

Gracious God, we praise you

for the blessing of this day

and the promise of tomorrow.

Be our helper as the night falls

and our joy when the morning comes; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Here are some prayers to use this week:

11:15 Our Lord Is in This Place

McDonald

Surely, surely, surely, surely the Lord is in this place. God is in this place; our Lord is in this place.

For where the Lord is, there is holiness,

for the Lord is great and greatly to be praised!

God is with us!

God is for us, then who will stand against us? There is nothing can separate us!

In the presence of the Lord there is love.

In the presence of the Lord there is peace. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there will be peace.

In the power of the Lord there is joy!

For the Lord, our God, is great and greatly to be praised. God is greatly to be praised.

Surely, surely, surely, surely the Lord is in this place.

God is this place. Our Lord is in this place. Our Lord is in this place.
