HOW TO MAINTAIN THE MARBLE FLOORS

Marble flooring is a type of ceramic with the highest variant which has pores that can easily absorb the stains. If the

marble floor is not immediately cleaned from the spot stains, it will make the marble floor remarkably spotted. So

hereby the simple knowledge for maintaining the marble floor.

THE DO’S

There are a few important steps that we need to know to do a marble polish:

Prepare the special marble cleaner and mix it with a warm water (or use a detergent/soap dish/other natural

ingredients that are suitable to avoid damage on pores and layers on marble

When you clean a certain area on the marble, you should wipe/mop the affected part gently and slowly follow

the direction of the marble fiber. This is to avoid damage on the marble surface

Wipe/mop again using a cold water without mixture

Then use a microfiber cloth to dry and polish the marble

THE DONT’S

There are a few things that we need to know of what we shouldn’t do for marble polish:

Using a floor cleaning products specifically for ceramic tiles is forbidden. Ceramic and marble are different.

When you use a ceramic tile cleaners, this can potentially cause the texture and the marble shine dissapear or

damage and later on the marble floor can get dull

Any material that is very acidic is not suitable for marble floor. Because this material can damage the natural

texture of the marble floor

Avoid wiping the marble floor with a rough cloth such as a dish washing sponge (made of fine wire or similar

materials)

Avoid using a vacuum cleaner. Because the wheels and hoses can scratch the surface of the marble floor.

Batik Day

Batik Day (Hari Batik Nasional) is an Indonesian

cultural day for celebrating batik- the traditional

cloth of Indonesia. It is celebrated on 2nd of October

and marks the anniversary of when UNESCO

recognized batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and

Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2009. At the day,

in Jakarta, the map of Indonesian batik diversity by

Hokky Situngkir was opened for public for the first

time by the Indonesian Ministry of Research and

Technology. The Indonesian government strongly

encourage Indonesian people (especially

government officials, employees of state-owned

enterprises, and students) to wear batik annual on

the holiday and on Fridays to commemorate the day.

Wearing batik every Friday has also been

encouraged in private companies.

Halloween is Coming

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of Hallows'

Even or Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All

Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve, is a celebration observed in

several countries on 31st October, the eve of the Western

Christian feast of All Hallows' Day. It begins the three-day

observance of Allhallowtide, the time in the liturgical

year dedicated to remembering the dead,

including saints (hallows), martyrs, and all the faithful

departed.

It is widely believed that many Halloween traditions originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly

the Gaelic festival Samhain; that such festivals may have had pagan roots; and that Samhain itself was Christianized as

Halloween by the early Church. Some believe, however, that Halloween began solely as a Christian holiday, separate

from ancient festivals like Samhain.

Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (or the related guising and souling), attending Halloween

costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, divination games,

playing pranks, visiting haunted attractions, telling scary stories, as well as watching horror films. In many parts of the

world, the Christian religious observances of All Hallows' Eve, including attending church services and

lighting candles on the graves of the dead, remain popular, although elsewhere it is a more commercial and secular

celebration. Some Christians historically abstained from meat on All Hallows' Eve, a tradition reflected in the eating of

certain vegetarian foods on this vigil day, including apples, potato pancakes, and soul cakes.

Textile Museum

The Textile Museum is a museum in Palmerah, West Jakarta. The museum houses a collection of textiles from various

islands in Indonesia. The Textile Museum building was constructed in the early 19th century. Initially it was a private

house of a Frenchman. The building was later sold to Abdul Aziz Al Mussawi al Musa Khadim, a Turkish consul

for Batavia. In 1942, the building was sold again to Karel Cristian Cruq. The building had been used as the headquarters

of Barisan Keamanan Rakyat ("Front of People's Safety") during the struggle for independence period. In 1947 it was

owned by Lie Sion Phin who rented it to the Department of Social Affairs which modified it into an institution for

elderly people. Afterwards the building was handed over to the city's government. On July 28, 1976 it was inaugurated

as the Textile Museum by Madame Tien Soeharto.

COLLECTIONS

The textile museum exhibits many kinds of Indonesian traditional weaving such as Javanese batik, Batak ulos, and ikat.

There are also displays of traditional weaving instruments and equipment for textile production. In addition to

exhibiting a collection of textiles, in this museum there is also a park in the backyard called the Natural Color Park. This

2,000-square-meter park contains trees that can be used as raw materials for natural dyes. The purpose of planting

trees is to educate people to recognize and know the trees that can be used as raw materials for natural dyes.

ACTIVITY

Another specialty that is contained in this

museum is a batik course. This course is held

in conjunction with the days of opening the

museum. This batik making course is held in a

building located in the backyard of the Textile

Museum. This building has a wide stilts style

house that does not have a divider in it. All

building materials are made of wood with dark

brown paint. In this room there is no air

conditioning (AC), because there are already

several windows surrounding the room to

drain fresh air.
