Steven SpielbergSteven Allan Spielberg is an American film director,

screenwriter, producer, video game designer, and studio entrepreneur. In a career of more than four decades, Spielberg’s films have covered many themes and genres. Spielberg’s early science-fiction and adventure films were seen as archetypes of modern Hollywood blockbuster filmmaking. In later years, his films began addressing such issues as slavery, war and terrorism. He is considered one of the most popular and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. He is also one of the co-founders of DreamWorks movie studio.

Steven Spielberg was born on December 18, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He began to develop an interest in film as a young boy, when he would cast family members and friends in short films which he directed. At the age of 10 he produced his first movie, an 8mm western lasting three minutes. At the age of 16 with a budget of $500 he produced Firelight, a two-hour, two-minute science fiction movie. In spite of his passion for film, he was a relatively poor student in the film department of California State College.

His first break came in 1969, when a Hollywood producer backed a 24-minute short called Amblin. Universal Films was so impressed by this short that they signed him to a 7-year contract when he was just 21. His first successful film was Jaws, which cost only $8.5 million to make and became the biggest money maker for its time. Jaws changed the way Hollywood viewed business.

Para.3 Together with George Lucas, Spielberg made the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was inspired by the many exciting serials he had viewed as a child. His next movie E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial became the most successful film of all time until it was surpassed by yet another Spielberg movie, Jurassic Park (worldwide gross of $913.1 million). In 1984 Spielberg formed Amblin Entertainment, which quickly became one of the largest and most powerful production companies in Hollywood.

Para.3 That same year he produced the sequel to Raiders, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, followed by The Colour Purple, which was based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about the life of a black girl in the South. In 1993 Spielberg released the science fiction movie Jurassic Park, which is full of innovations in computer graphics. That same year saw the release of Schindler’s List, a historical drama based on Oscar Schindler, who saved hundreds of Jews from concentration camps.

Para.4 Spielberg won the Academy Award for Best Director for Schindler ’s List (1993) and Saving Private Ryan (1998).
