Colonial Booklet Project:

For this project, you will create a character who has a unique religious, economic, social, and political

life. Your character will take a journey through the 13 colonies. Along the way, he/she meets new

people and observes the way of life in each colonial region. At the end of the journey, your character

will decide which region he/she would like to settle in.

This project will be due on January 8th and 9th. You will have several “project days” in class to work. Any other work should be done at home.

Colonial Booklet Character

Meet: ______________________ (it can be you, someone you know, or someone who is completely made up!)

Background: On the first page of your booklet, describe your character. Discuss his/her religious life, economic life (job), social life, and political life. Draw a picture of your character. Region=none Scene 1: Your character meets someone from one of the 3 colonial regions (New England, Mid Atlantic, Southern). Draw a picture of the person he/she meets. Write a dialogue of the conversation that your character and this new person have. In your dialogue, include information about the religion, job, and daily life of the new person. Region= Scene 2: Your character just witnessed the trial of Anne Hutchinson and seen her banished from the community. Thinking about your character’s religious, social, and political life, how does your character react? Write a paragraph journaling your character’s opinions about the trial. Region=New England

Scene 3: Your character sees a flyer advertising 2 employment positions in one of the 3 colonial regions. Using your knowledge of the jobs in each region, create the job wanted ads. Make sure you state the location of the job on the flyer. Region= Scene 4: Your character travels to Roanoke Island, site of the “Lost Colony.” After looking around, he/she draws a diagram showing what he/she thinks happened to the settlers. Make sure each detail of your diagram is labeled. Region=Southern Scene 5: Your character decides to travel to one of the 3 regions. Using your knowledge of each colonial region, draw a picture of the community he or she sees. What do the buildings look like? What are people doing? Region= Scene 6: While exploring the colonies, you meet someone who asks about the different people you have met along the way. Draw a picture of someone from each social class in colonial America and describe him/her in 3-5 sentences. Be sure to mention your own social class.
