So, Hitler signed a non-aggression treaty with Stalin. They agreed to not go to war with each other.

Why did the Soviet Union sign the treaty?
The army didn’t feel ready to fight ANOTHER war. They were hurt VERY badly during WWI.

able to defeat the Germans in the Battle of Stalingrad in 1942.

1. The Germans weren’t prepared (ready) for the harsh Soviet winter.
Tanks and weapons didn’t work in extreme cold.
