About the project The Living Wandle Landscape Partnership is a Heritage Lottery Funded programme that is reconnecting local people with the River Wandle through celebrating its unique heritage. Over four years, the scheme is delivering 28 projects covering wildlife conservation, access improvement, heritage exploration and learning as well as training opportunities for people to get involved with. Our aim is to enhance, protect and celebrate the industrial and natural heritage of the Wandle. Did you know that you are within a regional park? The Living Wandle Landscape Partnership supports the wider initiative to create a new regional park in the Wandle Valley, stretching from Croydon and Sutton through Merton and Wandsworth to the Thames in the North. Progress towards this is being coordinated by The Wandle Valley Regional Park Trust. The vision is for the Wandle Valley to be a coherent and vital part of London’s green space network, creating a place rich in heritage, where people are proud to live, work and play, that contributes to the economic vibrancy of South London. This will be done by focussing on six key aims: landscape, heritage & culture, health & well-being, natural systems & resilience, people & communication and economic growth. Wandle events wanted! A celebration of all things Wandle, by the community for the community

The annual celebration of the Wandle begins on Saturday 9th during Heritage Open Days weekend and runs to World Rivers Day on Sunday 24th. Last year's programme included walks, talks, arts, open days, craft, nature, heritage, orienteering, cycling, trees, picnics, mud, songs and even the first Wandle Beer Festival. This year will be packed full of exciting activities and events for all the family to enjoy, this event is not to be missed! Full details can be found at: wandlevalleyforum.org.uk/wandle-fortnight.html Graphics credited to Maria Arroyo.

Would you like to get involved scoping out and exploring a series of vistas throughout the Wandle Valley between July & November?

A pleasing view, especially a beautiful view from a high position, or a long, narrow view as between rows of trees or buildings, especially one closed by a building or other structure.

The Wandle Vistas project aims to find and protect key local vistas through incorporation into Supplementary Planning Guidance, whilst raising awareness and enjoyment of these viewpoints by people across the valley. To share your views on which Wandle Valley vista is your favourite, or find out more about becoming a vistas volunteer please contact Fenella at: [email protected] or tel. 0208 670 0778
