Dear Parents and Carers,
Building Update
Next Week our administration staff will relocate to a temporary office near the library entrance. This will remain in use until later in Term 1, 2019 when the office refurbishment will be complete. We anticipate there will be minimal changes to normal operations during this time.
Presentation Days
We look forward to celebrating the successes and achievements of our students at Presentation Days next week. Dates and times are shown above. This is a great opportunity to pause and celebrate together as we acknowledge student achievement.
Student Leaders 2019
Congratulations to our new 2019 Student Leadership Team. The roles of Captains and Vice-Captains will be announced next week at our Stage 3 Presentation Day. Congratulations to all the Year 5 candidates on the outstanding work and effort invested into their campaigns. Whilst there may only be ten official student leaders, it is obvious there is a wealth of leadership talent amongst our students. The 2019 student leadership team are (in alphabetical order): Paige B, Chloe B, Emma B, Jake B, Cameron C, Max K, Jarvis McA, Blake M, Paige P and Anisha S.
Staffing Update
Congratulations to Mr Bennett who was successful in the recent merit selection process and has been permanently appointed to our school.
Year 6 Parade of Honour
We invite parents to join with us for a special Parade of Honour at 3.00pm on Wednesday 19th December (last day for all students), as we recognise, honour and farewell our Year 6 students on their final day at Wamberal Public School.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Parent Helper Morning Tea
The staff will be hosting a morning tea of appreciation for all parent helpers and Scripture teachers on Wednesday 12th December in the Library, starting at 11:35 am. Helping your Child with Literacy and Numeracy
Last week Mrs Lewis presented “Helping your Child with Literacy and Numeracy” to our new Kindergarten parents during Wambles. A number of parents, including some with older siblings already at school, requested a copy of the presentation. To support these and other parents, the PowerPoint has been made available via the school’s website. Please see below for a link:

Positive Behaviour for Learning
This week, we are focusing on being safe, respectful learners for lost property. Teachers will be rewarding students with SRLs for demonstrating the school’s expectations of safe, respectful learner behaviour.

Our Years 2 and 3 SRC students return labelled items to classrooms at the end of each week. Unlabelled items are donated to charity and our WPS P&C Second Hand Uniform Shop at the end of each term. Parents are encouraged to regularly check the lost property box as well as label all personal belongings.

Mo Brothers
Congratulations to the male members of staff who grew moustaches for the 30 days of November. Whilst it was a bold fashion statement (some more bold than others!), it was also for a very good cause. They raised $4,205.00 for the Movember Foundation, a foundation that tackles some of the most significant health issues faced by men.
Have a great week. Jane Rees and Lisa Lewis Deputy Principals
HELLO FROM THE LIBRARY IN TERM 4, WEEK 8 Preventing the “Summer Reading Slide”
Take a look at Dav Pilkey’s advice: Captain Underpants author Dav Pilkey
has a special message for kids, reminding
them that summer reading can give them
superpowers and prevent the “Summer
Reading Slide”.
So, how, can you fit reading into your summer plans?
Model readerly behaviours — demonstrate curiosity about the world, ask questions, show that you read and talk about reading
Make reading time fun and satisfying Share reading time to strengthen reading & relationships Enjoy a trip to your local library or bookstore Take a book with you to the park or the beach Read a chapter in the morning, before other plans cause distraction Make screen-free time Give books as gifts

Harper Collins book review competition Term 3
During Term 3 some of our students read chapter samplers from the publisher Harper Collins and submitted reviews in a competition. What a great experience to participate in a real-world activity for the world of book publishing. Although they did not win, they have made some excellent recommendations for summer reading. Here are some extracts:
Funny Kid by Matt Stanton
Funny Kid is definitely not like other books … in a good way! I found it really funny …
At the end of Chapter 2 it was very different to when Matt started the story. I wanted to know what happened next, but the sampler was finished. I would definitely recommend the book.
Name: Paige (Year 5)
Sweet Adversity by Sheryl Gwyther
Sweet Adversity describes the life of an orphan without making children worry. Addie is a troublemaker and puts herself out there which pushes me to do the same. Addie’s life is hard but it tells the reader to never give up!
Name: Rahni (Year 5)
Withering-by-Sea by Judith Rossell
The book Withering-by-Sea is an exciting and interesting fantasy novel. It is about an orphan girl named Stella Montgomery who lives with her three awful aunts. One day she sees something she shouldn’t see, which makes her journey more exciting and wonderful. She loves an old atlas that she has had for a while. I recommend this book for all kids 11+.
Name: Jessica (Year 5)
Scholastic Book Club The final Scholastic Book Club Issue 8 orders have been processed online and will be returned before the end of term. Please contact the school office or the library if special delivery instructions apply.
Library borrowing Please return all library books by Week 8. Please return any borrowed library bags.
Happy reading, Mrs Knight Teacher Librarian
