TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

40 - 4

In today’s Gospel we are told that when the man came to Jesus with his question, Jesus looked at him and loved him. We are not told the end of the story about the man with many possessions. He went away sad, says Mark, and leaves us to wonder what became of him. Perhaps Jesus' look of love drew him back. Perhaps he was able to shift his basis of security to Jesus. Let us be firm in following the One who always looks at us with love.

Jinto Mathew CSC

Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday. Every parish across the globe will celebrate this event. It is a global sign of the Universal Church and mission. On this day, Pope Francis invites all Catholics to contribute to a special collection for the Propagation of the Faith. Your support will help missionaries in proclaiming the Gospel of joy and peace around the world. Please join in this special day that unites Catholics from all over the world through prayer and care for the Church’s mission. Your donations will support churches, hospitals, schools and train seminarians and religious Brothers and Sisters in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Pacific Island and some of our Canadian dioceses.

SEARCH FOR GIFTS & TALENTS

Did you ever wonder how people become a Lector or Eucharistic Minsters? . . . . Did you ever wonder who visits the sick or helps the poor of our community? . . . . How do you get to welcome people at church on a Saturday evening or Sunday morning? . . . . Who makes and serves the coffee and plans amazing social events? . . . . Maybe you love working with the children or even better the youth and are you hiding your amazing singing voice???? All your questions will be answered on October 20th and 21st downstairs in the parish hall. The Pastoral Council is hosting a Search for Gifts and Talents sign up. Members from the different ministries will be available after the mass to answer your questions and sign you up as a valued volunteer. Please think of the ways you can help us to continue to be a warm and welcoming faith community. The time commitment is small but the reward commitment is huge. Please consider becoming a more active member of Holy Name Parish. Mark your calendars and commit.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Tea & Coffee Ministry will resume

Minors and Vulnerable Adults On October 4th, the bishops of Canada issued new national guidelines for the protection of minors in Canada. Entitled Protecting Minors from Sexual Abuse: A Call to the Catholic Faithful in Canada for Healing, Reconciliation, and Transformation, this document first and foremost, focuses on minors and vulnerable adults, whom Canada’s bishops wish to protect from sexual violence. The document can be found at www. cccb.ca. Since 1989, the Archdiocese of Toronto has had an extensive safe environment policy in place, including a procedure for allegations of abuse or misconduct. That document can be found at https://www.archtoronto.org/about-us/safe- environment.
