Lightning Football and Netball Carnival Most of our class participated in the knock-out netball and football

carnival on Monday Week 8, to get selected for the SAPSASA teams.

We were lucky enough to have one girl from our class, Emily Flowers,

make it through to the second round for netball! Well Done Emily!

Science and Design & Tech During Science, we have been learning about filtration and

distillation techniques. In groups, we made our own filters and solar

sills.

We made the filters by putting a coffee filter in a funnel and pouring

dirty water into the funnel, which came out in a plastic cup. In the

end, we had clean water.

We made the solar sills with an aluminium tray in a shoe box. Then we

got an aluminium bowl and put that in the middle of the tray. We

poured some salted water in the tray. We covered the top of the

shoe box with gladwrap and put a rock directly in the middle of the

gladwrap. The water was supposed to evaporate and hit the

gladwrap and trail down under the rock, then drip into the cup and

leave the salt on the tray. In the end, this experiment failed.

Now we are designing and constructing our own water filters for

Design and Tech that will hopefully produce clean water.

Room 4

This year, Room 4 have been working hard with our Japanese teacher, Mio Sensei, learning about a whole range of different topics. Once a week we meet with Mio online for a lesson over the internet. It is interesting to be able to see and hear Mio while she shares her knowledge of Japan by sharing a slideshow with songs and videos. We also have one follow-up lesson where we complete some extra work to show how much we have learnt from our online lesson. The main topics we have learnt about with Mio so far include how to greet someone in Japanese, names of shapes, names and flags of countries, names of colours, and nationalities.
