Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christ-centred community, equipping each student for life.

Message from the Interim Principal Testing Times ‘NAPLAN’ is the word of the week! For many, just the

‘word’ NAPLAN stirs anxiety, for others it is met as a

challenge and an expression of their learning, while for

others, they just go through the motions. Tuesday,

Wednesday and Thursday are NAPLAN testing days for

Years 3, 5 and 7 students.

NAPLAN provides a snapshot view of a child’s learning.

Many other assessments throughout the year provide

teachers, students and parents with a clearer picture

of student achievements and abilities. It is important

that NAPLAN is viewed in this way. It is also important

to understand that different children approach test situations differently.

To prepare for a test to ensure the best possible results, practice and

revision are essential, as are appropriate periods of rest and eating

healthy food. All classes have been preparing for NAPLAN to give chil-

dren the best possible chance of success.

We can go through testing times in our lives. These testing times come in

varying degrees and people deal with these times differently. Reactions

vary from worry, depression, illness and withdrawal to a positive attitude,

hard work, support groups, medical help and many things in between.

One constant in every situation, whether it be good or bad is us as an

individual. God can also be that constant – we just need to tap into Him.

Relying on God and asking him to help any situation can provide us with

a sense of peace and understanding. In 1 Peter 5:7 God asks us to cast

all our anxieties on him, because he cares for us. Call on Him and test it

out!

Year 3/4/5 Camp Helpers Needed Calling all Dads or Grandads!

Thank you to all those mums who

have already volunteered to assist

us with camp we are very grateful

for your offers.

We are currently looking for a couple of

males to keep Mr Fladrich company and

assist with supervision on camp. If you are

able to help please let us know ASAP so

that we are able to finalise our entire parent

helper list and begin any paper work that is

required. Camp will be Monday 18th September until Wednesday 20th

September at Hindmarsh Island.

ALWS Day Once again, Waikerie Lutheran

Primary students will be learning

about the world around them and

the difficulties faced in other countries at

Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS)

Day on Wednesday, 24th May 2017. This day

will allow students and teachers to ‘walk in

someone else’s shoes’ as they learn about

why people in poor countries walk …. for

food, water, health care, education, safety,

and learn about people living with disabilities

and their ‘walk’ in life. Come ...walk my way!

“...He has told you what He wants, and this is

all it is: to be fair, just, merciful and to walk

humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)

The student will bring home a ‘photograph

permission’ form today which is a

requirement from the ALWS. If you could

please complete one for each student (one

per child) and return them to class teachers

as soon as possible.

Corner of Peace

When I was younger I always thought how wonderful it would be to make pottery…..the

potter’s wheel and clay somehow intrigued me and drew me to it. Sadly I never looked

hard enough for the opportunity to learn. Who knows …… one day I might yet do so…..I

have of late discovered that I can do a lot of hand work I never thought I would be able

to. Perhaps in this area, as in others, I have started to yield to my Master Potter’s Hands

(God).

The prophet Jeremiah helps us understand that, (like Israel), we

are in the Master Potter’s Hands and we can rest at peace that

He will not let us be separated from Him and that He will always

be forming us into something beautiful . We just need to remain

pliable and responsive in His Hand: when others put us down

He will keep us lifted up; like a potter He will not press down on

the clay but rather lift and shape it ; He will not grow tired and

hand over the wheel to someone else! And it does not matter

what age we are (from very young to very old), or what we are

like physically or mentally – He will make something special out

of each of us if we let Him.

God bless

Congratulations to the members of the WLPS

SAPSASA team who competed last Friday in

the Riverland schools tournament at Alan

Glassey Park, Berri. The students played 7x20

minute games; winning 4 games and drawing

3. The team consisted of Naish Andrew, Tiana

Burns, Lachlan Ebert, Ellen Kroehn, Malachi

Lloyd, Aaliyah Loffler, Latia Loffler, Aby

Mihalopoulos, Chloe Nitschke, Ethan Rayner,

Aaron Schmidt and Cody Thiele. The team

played extremely well together and it was

great to see the students involved in the day

displaying good sportsmanship and teamwork.

Thanks must go to George Loffler for coaching

the team, and to Nina Rayner and Justice

Ebert for umpiring. The students came away

with a joint win with Our Lady of the River,

securing a 3 year running streak for our school!

Birthdays this

Week

Students of the Week Teachers are encouraging the attitudes of appreciation, commitment, confidence, cooper-

ation, creativity, curiosity, empathy, enthusiasm, independence, integrity, respect and toler-

ance as a tool kit for successfully relating with others. As a way of celebrating the demonstra-

tion of these attitudes by students, staff have elected these students this week.

Year 6/7 Class (Mr Braun and Mrs K-O)

Enthusiasm - Brodie Bishop. Well done Brodie on an enthusiastic return from holidays. I have

enjoyed your excitement towards your learning and your peers. Keep it up Brodie!

Commitment - Lachlan Ebert. I have been super impressed with Lachlan’s commitment this

week. He has returned from holidays and knuckled down with his reading and completing

tasks in Maths. Keep it up Lachy!

Year 5 Class (Mrs Burns)

Commitment - Brodie Baring. Brodie has begun the term with greater commitment towards

tasks. He has been more open-minded towards tasks and adding further detail to his work.

Keep up the positive work habits Brodie.

Integrity - Yvette Weston. Yvette showed integrity when independently pursuing tasks that

she had missed due to being absent, and quickly caught them up. Great work Yvette.

Year 3/4 Class (Mr Fladrich)

Cooperation - Natalie Mackintosh. Natalie displayed excellent cooperation when working

with her partner to research information about the meaning and traditions of ANZAC Day.

Well done Natalie!

Commitment – Kyesha Watkins. Kyesha has shown outstanding commitment towards

practising and improving her reading skills. Well done Kyesha!

Year 1/2 Class (Mrs Canney and Mrs Beelitz)

Independence - Taylah Liebich. Taylah takes on independent approach to her learning. She

challenges herself and chooses to complete extra homework and class work regularly.

Fantastic attitude!

Creativity - Evie Matthews. Evie demonstrated creativity and her passion for music and

rhythm in Hands on Learning this week. Great imagination!

Foundation/Year 1 Class (Miss Corbett)

Commitment– Ajay Barker. You have impressed me this week with your dedication and

commitment to your learning in all learning areas. It is great to see you listening, thinking and

showing a readiness to help others in your class. Great start to Term 2, Ajay.

Commitment - Jonah Kroehn. Your hard work and curiosity in learning both at home and at

school is really paying off. Congratulations on getting onto purple level. Well done Jonah!

Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud

Sunday afternoon was a great time for children get down and get dirty.

They were given a licence to get as dirty as

they chose; jumping into sloppy mud, digging, building,

cooking, creating and exploring.

The weather was kind and a lot of fun was had by all—adults included!
