2, Khalood Ghani Room 2 and Clara Macdonald Room 2.

Celebration of the Arts Curriculum In Terms 3 and 4 we look forward to celebrating the Arts Curriculum in all its various forms – drama, dance,

music and visual art. The staff have planned some wonderful activities which I know will be enjoyed by all

our students and school community. In addition, you may wish to note the following events in your diary:

The annual WCC Young People’s Arts Festival begins in September and we are taking part in various

activities including the Artsplash concert on Tuesday 17th September at 5.00pm at the Michael Fowler

Centre. All our Year 3-4 students will be participating in this evening of music and song along with

students from other primary schools in the Wellington region. Wadestown School will once again be

contributing to the Dancesplash concert on Friday 20 September at 7.45pm.

A record number of primary and intermediate schools registered their interest in taking part in

Dancesplash 2019 and we were delighted to be included in this year’s invitation to participate. A large

group of our senior students will be taking part in this year’s performance celebrating dance in all its

forms.

Prior to the Dancesplash concert we hope that our wonderful school orchestra, under the guidance of

Rupa Maitra will also be entertaining visitors during the Young People’s Art Festival.

The school orchestra has also been invited to entertain visitors to the Wilton-Wadestown Horticultural

Spring Show to be held at the St Lukes Centre on Saturday 7th September (more details to follow).

Other school activities celebrating the Arts Curriculum are planned to take place this term and in term

four. We hope you will enjoy the opportunity to see the students involved in the Performing Arts

Curriculum.

Last week we had the pleasure of hearing our

school orchestra play and we all enjoyed a

wonderful concert by this talented group of

musicians. If your child is interested in joining

the school orchestra, our wonderful conductor

Rupa Maitra would love to hear from you.

Annual School Working Bee – Saturday 21st September Do come along and enjoy making a wonderful contribution to Wadestown School. We have lots of tasks on

offer including planting, painting, building, gardening etc. This is a great way to meet new parents and catch

everyone who gives up their time so willingly to be part of such a big day. We also enjoy the bonus of a

fabulous morning tea and lunch to boost our energy levels during the day. For more information or to offer

your help on the day, please contact Malcolm McKee our Working Bee Coordinator on 027 291 4216.

Anchor AIMS games: 7th – 13th September 2019 A group of senior students, teaching staff and parents are looking forward to taking part in the Anchor AIMS Games to

be held in Tauranga from 7th – 13th September. This has been a huge undertaking and a special thank you to all the

parents and students who have been so busy fundraising for this exciting event. We are also very appreciative of all

the work that Nick Julian and Nicki Greer have undertaken to ensure that this experience will be one that our

participating students and their families will remember for many years to come.

This is the first time Wadestown School has sent a team to this very popular event which many schools throughout

New Zealand attend. We wish you all a wonderful week and look forward to sharing this experience on your return.

Thank you to the parents who have been so active in organising all the logistics required of an event such as this. It

has been a real team effort and I am most appreciative of all the time and energy that has gone into the preparation

for this adventure to date.

Kiss and Bake Up Pies Fundraiser - back by popular demand! We ran this pie fundraiser just prior to the school holidays and have had many people asking us to run it again so here's your chance to stock up. Wadestown School has a group of year 7 & 8 students heading to Tauranga for the AIMS games in early September. They will be competing in the football and cross country. We hope you will support our Family Pie fundraiser. Yummy savoury and sweet family sized pies (20 cm) in a range of flavours. The pies are made by Kiss and Bake Up on the Kapiti Coast. Fire and Emergency NZ are endeavouring to reduce the incidence and consequences of residential property fires. The approach of the Free Home Fire Safety Visit initiative is to educate families on home fire safety, working smoke alarms and safe meeting places. Annually Fire and Emergency NZ attend an average of 5226 residential property fires, resulting in 262 injuries and 19 fatalities. The average house can become totally involved in fire within 5 minutes, un-survivable in as little as 3 min and reach temperatures in excess of 1200 degrees Celsius (4 times hotter than the average oven). In Wellington, we would like make a start by offering Free Home Fire Safety Visits to families with school children and the also the elderly. If possible, would you be able to run the attached poster in your next school newsletter offering the Free Home Fire Safety Visit to your student’s families. If you have any questions or require any further information, please do not hesitate to call. Phone: 04 237 6918 [email protected] www.fireandemergency.nz
