Dear WA Alumni and Friends, Another school year is coming to a close at Williams- burg Academy and what a great year it has been! Sen- iors began receiving notices of their acceptance to col- leges and universities in early January and off they will go to places such as Clem- son, USC, The Cita- del, Francis Marion, Wofford, Winthrop, Columbia College, Charleston Southern, PC, College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, and Trident Technical College. We wish all thirty-two of them well! The Stanford Achieve- ment Test was ad- ministered to all first through eighth grade students in March and we are pleased to announce that the overall school average for all stu- dents was at the 75 percen- tile. This is an awesome ac- complishment, as the SCISA requirement for advanced accreditation is only 60 per- cent. Our Varsity football team made it to the first round in the State Championship play- offs. Our varsity baseball team took the title of State Runner Up just this past week. The enrollment for next school year is up from last year. We continue to transport students by bus from the Lake City area, the Andrews area, and the Hemingway area. With the exception of two, all present WA teachers will return next year. We con- tinue to have lists of things that need to be done and or updated to keep up with this ever changing world. We are now in the planning stages of developing a “publishing lab” to house 8 or 10 computers for the purpose of allowing a teacher and group of students to design and update our website and publish monthly newsletters as well as work- ing on our yearbook. In to- day’s world, we think this is a necessity. We will need monetary sup- port for this project and would appreciate any amount you feel you could contribute for this or any of our worthwhile projects. We really would like to keep you informed on a daily basis of the WA happenings. We have come a long way in the technology field in the past few years. Much of it has been made possible by donations and we are so very grateful. You are invited to visit WA at any time. It would give us great pleasure to show you around– so visit us soon! Dear WA Alumni and Friends, Another school year is coming to a close at Williams-burg Academy and what a great year it has been! Sen-iors began receiving notices of their acceptance to col-leges and universities in early January and off they will go to places such as Clem-son, USC, The Cita-del, Francis Marion, Wofford, Winthrop, Columbia College, Charleston Southern, PC, College of Charleston, Coastal Carolina, and Trident Technical College. We wish all thirty-two of them well! The Stanford Achieve-ment Test was ad-ministered to all first through eighth grade students in March and we are pleased to announce that the overall school average for all stu-dents was at the 75 percen-tile. This is an awesome ac-complishment, as the SCISA requirement for advanced accreditation is only 60 per-

cent. Our Varsity football team made it to the first round in the State Championship play-offs. Our varsity baseball team took the title of State Runner Up just this past week. The enrollment for next school year is up from last year. We continue to transport students by bus from the

Lake City area, the Andrews area, and the Hemingway area. With the exception of two, all present WA teachers will return next year. We con-tinue to have lists of things that need to be done and or updated to keep up with this ever changing world. We are

now in the planning stages of developing a “publishing lab” to house 8 or 10 computers for the purpose of allowing a teacher and group of students to design and update our website and publish monthly newsletters as well as work-ing on our yearbook. In to-day’s world, we think this is a

necessity. We will need monetary sup-port for this project and would appreciate any amount you feel you could contribute for this or any of our worthwhile projects. We really would like to keep you informed on a daily basis of the WA happenings. We have come a long way in the technology field in

the past few years. Much of it has been made possible by donations and we are so very grateful. You are invited to visit WA at any time. It would give us great pleasure to show you around– so visit us soon!

It is clear that Marty has distinguished himself as a man of character who is devoted to his family, his community, and to Williamsburg Academy.

The Jim Kirven Service Award has been established by the Williamsburg Academy Development Founda-tion to recognize an individual for “Outstanding Dedication” to Williamsburg Academy. Mr. Jim is truly missed by his Williamsburg Academy Family and we hope to keep his spirit alive by honoring others who demonstrate a love for and dedication to Williamsburg Academy. The Development Foundation looks for-ward to the opportunity each year to recognize individuals that go “above and beyond” to support Wil-liamsburg Academy. The 2007 recipient, Myron Kellahan, has spent many years offering his time and talent to WA. He has served on the Williamsburg Academy Booster Club for many years and has served as Booster Club President for several years as well. He was instrumental in the refurbishing and remod-eling of our restroom facilities and is always willing and available to help with building and maintenance issues that arise during the school year. His love for Williamsburg Academy and its students is made evi-dent through his dedication and hard work. We are proud to have the opportunity to honor Myron for his tireless efforts and continuous service to Williamsburg Academy.

The WA Student Council was honored with the Organization of the Year Award by The Williamsburg Hometown Chamber for their many accomplishments this year. Among them, their many service projects such as Wrapped With Love, Stuffed With Love, River Sweep, the annual can food drive, and their work with the local animal shelter and the various projects the students have begun at WA such as the Safety Patrol, The Teacher of the Month Program, The Golden Broom Award, and school beautification projects. Williamsburg Academy is so fortunate to have such an active student council and such an involved sponsor, Mrs. Laura Jones. Congratulations to our Student Council. They are most deserving of this prestigious award.

Third grader Chandler White, daughter of Johnny and Donna Chandler White was the winner of the Gov-ernor’s 2008 Safe Kids Calendar Contest. More than 21,000 students throughout the state submitted artwork and only 13 stu-dents were selected. The Safe Kids Calen-dar Contest was designed to promote child-hood injury prevention.

The undefeated ponies treated their faithful fans to one win after another as they continued their winning streak by completing the season with a 9-0 record. The stands were packed at home games and away games, as fans came out to support the team. Con-gratulations to the Williamsburg Academy Ponies for their outstanding effort on the field!

Class of 1988 Celebrates 20th Reunion

The Class of 1988 celebrated their 20th reunion at Broadway at the Beach. Emily Jo Clarkson Perkins the class president along with several others have been planning this reun-ion for quite some time. Elissa put together a slideshow and Karen had a list of "new" superlatives. There were fireworks, a full moon, and great 80's music. Helena Sjostrand, an exchange student who joined the class their sen-ior year came all the way from Swe-den to join in the celebration.

Annual Giving Campaign Dear Williamsburg Academy Alumni, Family, and Friends,

On behalf of the Williamsburg Academy Development Foundation I am delighted for the opportunity to give you an update on our school and to ask for your financial help through our annual giving campaign.

The purpose of Williamsburg Academy is to create a safe and nurturing environment while providing students with an academi-cally challenging curriculum that promotes critical thinking, social and moral responsibility, creativity, and teamwork. The school’s mission includes encouraging each student to do his or her personal best while becoming an independent thinker and lifelong learner. We cannot fulfill this purpose without your financial support.

The annual giving campaign makes a substantial impact on the quality of education that Williamsburg Academy provides. It is through the kindness and generosity of donors that we are able to continue to offer the best education possible and remain the School of Choice for the students of Williamsburg County and its surrounding areas.

Although Williamsburg Academy receives a portion of its operating costs from tuition, there is a gap between what tuition pro-vides and the school’s total operating budget. Also, no tuition money is used for the funding of athletics or scholarships. Gener-ous support from alumni and friends strengthens the Williamsburg Academy experience for all students.

Your gift to the annual fund will help Williamsburg Academy achieve the following:

Be competitive in attracting and retaining outstanding teachers

Fund needs-based scholarships for deserving students

Acquire new technology

Develop new facilities for school growth

Support the school’s athletic program along with the Booster Club

Assist in repair and maintenance of the existing facilities

Any contribution is greatly appreciated and is tax deductible as the Development Foundation has 501(c)3 status. Gifts may also be made in honor or in memory of loved ones.

I hope you enjoy the WA Today Alumni and Friends Magazine displaying some of the current activities at the school. Thank you for your loyal support.

With kindest regards,

Beth Williamson

Development Foundation Chairperson
