mySOUL, which stands for Silliman Online UniversityLearning, is the official online distance learning

(ODL) platform of Silliman University (SU).

It is a web-based learning management system thatholds the virtual classrooms of different subjects.

It is accessible at https://soul.su.edu.ph.

Once students receive a confirmation that they areofficially enrolled, they can now activate their

mySOUL account to access their virtual classrooms.

Students don’t have to physically be at the SUcampus because classes for the first semester

of SY 2020-2021 will be done through mySOUL.



When you access your mySOUL account, you willsee the different virtual classrooms of thecourses/subjects that you are enrolled in.

mySOUL: your ODL partner

Each subject is handled by a teacher trained inusing mySOUL. When you check the lessonsprepared by the teacher, you can see variedactivities to fulfill in the course.


Teachers prepare virtual classes in mySOULpatterned after the face-to-face curriculum butcustomized in such a way that learningresources and activities can be donesynchronously and asynchronously, withouthaving to compromise the intended learningoutcomes of the course.


You don’t have to be online all the time to meetclass requirements. Synchronous activities,done online in real-time, are scheduled once ortwice a week. This means most of the otheractivities can be done on your own(asynchronous) and you can prepare yourinternet data for scheduled real-time activities.In that way, you can save internet data andavoid internet disconnection during onlineactivities and meetings.

Synchronous activities are done when students andthe teacher are online at the same time in mySOUL,following the class schedule. Students perform theactivities within that schedule.

video conferencing(oral recitation,reporting usingfile/screen-sharing,demonstration,group-work usingbreak-out sessions,document-sharing)and chat (by class orby group)scheduled exam

Students are required to log-in in mySOUL during theclass schedule, and attendance is checked. Teachersare expected to log-in during their class schedules.

Examples:


Asynchronous activities are done when students and teachersare not online in mySOUL at the same time. Students performactivities, read, and download resources, and communicatewith teachers and classmates at their own time within thetime frame set by the teacher.

Students are not required to log-in in mySOUL during theclass schedule for asynchronous activities, but teachers areexpected to log-in during their class schedule to monitorstudent progress, check assignments, review scores, gradeessays and other forms of assessment, respond to messages,adjust/modify resources and activities, among others.Teachers must deliberately design asynchronous activitieswith less screen time among the students.

When it comes to devices, desktop PCs andlaptops are best used for activities both onlineand offline. Tablets and smartphones are limitedin use for viewing and downloading of resources.

A constant bandwidth of 2 Mbps is theminimum requirement, but we have tounderstand that internetconnection fluctuates.Thus, it is recommendedthat a 4 Mbps bandwidthor higher is available.

It is also important that learners have a headsetwith a microphone in order for them to activelyparticipate in video-conferencing activities.

You can also download the mobile app"Blackboard Open LMS" (for iOS users) or"Open LMS" (for Android users) so that youcan easily access course/subject contents,quickly find and contact classmates andteachers, and receive instant notifications ofmessages and other events.

For iOS users: After downloading the app, youmust email [email protected] to get yourlog-in details.

For Android users: Afterdownloading the app,type in mySOUL's address(https://soul.su.edu.ph)then log-in using your SUemail address.

mySOUL continues to serve the commitment of SU toprovide quality and holistic education by putting thelearners, from Kindergarten to the Graduate School,at the heart of the teaching-learning process.

With mySOUL, students are given PRIME importance.



While ODL in mySOUL follows class-paced learning, mySOULallows students to experience self-directed learning in a newand strategic way. mySOUL is able to maximize the abundantpresence of valuable information, knowledge, concepts, andconstructs available in the internet. In this manner, studentswill have various options to support their own pace and styleof learning.

While social interaction is challenged in this pandemic, theplatform ensures dynamic, collaborative, and interactiveactivities between and among students and teachers.

mySOUL is not a typical learning platform because itincorporates other key student services like tele-counseling(online guidance counseling), virtual library system, and more.

At the “soul” of mySOUL is maintaining SU’s fidelity to itscurriculum, educational philosophy, and school mission: to beof service in promoting the well-being of society and theenvironment as it offers quality holistic education buildingcompetence, character, and faith.

mySOUL engages students in experiences thatwill create a sense of connection to SU’scurrent modality of learning, which is onlinedistance learning (ODL).
