I have just passed my three-month anniversary at Waynesborough Country Club! I have spent this time busy

meeting new faces and understanding the many facets of Waynesborough’s culture. As the season started, we

faced a few challenges at the pool- due to the past winter- repairing some coping, replacing tiles, caulking and

repairing gutter leaks. The Waynesborough Room (ballroom) has been freshened up with a new paint color,

replacing the wallpaper, in order to remain up-to-date and inviting for our Members and guests. Full renovations

of this space will take place during the upcoming facility master plan. Please come out to see the elegant, new

space and remember to contact Helen Kesaris to organize your family or company event.

The First Sundowner Dinner on the course was a great success. Check the calendar for our next Wine Tasting on

July 16 and a Wine Dinner and “Blending Seminar” on September 8, where Raymond Vineyards will present a

“Wine Maker for a Day” seminar.

As schools let out, swim team practices have begun and summer sports camps are in progress. These programs

reinforce good sportsmanship while building character. Your children are Waynesborough’s future, and we hope

they become part of our next generation of Waynesborough members.

From The Greens Department Hello Everyone,

As a follow up to last month's article, it is now evident that the bermudagrass top range tee will not recover. We

have resodded the tee, adjusted our bermudagrass management program, and are looking into alternate forms of

protection over the winter months. Thank you for your patience as we work to get the tee in better condition for the

remainder of the golf season.

July and August are normally very challenging months for golf courses in the Philadelphia area. High temperatures

combined with high humidity and the risk of heavy rainfall or drought keeps turf professionals on their toes. Please

be patient when Greens Department staff are completing watering or other tasks on the course. Often times, we

will complete a light watering or "syringing" of the turf. If we are on the green watering, please wait until we are

finished to hit into the green. We are aware when golfers are on the fairway or tee waiting to hit, but sometimes we

must water immediately to maintain turf health. Usually an afternoon syringe of the greens takes only 2-3 minutes

and your cooperation is appreciated as we strive to keep the course in good playing condition while keeping our

maintenance staff safe.

Pro’s Corner Congratulations to Vinnie Arcana and Dick Genoni on their recent victory in the Member-Member Scratch event.

The Father-Son team of Joe and Kevin Cahill won their 4th Father-Son Championship, edging out Jay and Dylan

Cottone on the third playoff hole. And a big congratulations to Michael Cook, who successfully defended his

Men’s Club Championship title with a win over Kyle Dolby in the final match. Michael’s name will be added for

the second consecutive year to the R. Lamar Kilgore Cup.

Now that the season is in full swing, and the golf course is being utilized more, we are asking all golfers to be

diligent with repairing ball marks and replacing/filling divots. We are encouraging our members to take the pledge

to be stewards of the golf course and do a little extra during their round of golf. We have signs posted in the men’s

and women’s locker room for members to “Take the Pledge”. If you take the pledge, we ask that during your

round of golf you fix an additional two ball marks on every green, fill two additional divots in fairways (when

taking a golf cart), and fill two additional divots on each par 3 tee box. Please add your name to the signs located

in the men’s and women’s locker rooms and help us make the golf experience at Waynesborough even better!

For our newer members here at Waynesborough, there are several times throughout the week when tee times are

not necessary. First of all, every Saturday, Sunday and holiday (schedule permitting) we have the “Sign and Go”

time from 7:00 am until 10:50 am. This is a great opportunity to get in a game and meet some of your fellow

WCC members. All requests for starting times during these hours must be made in person in the golf shop on the

day of play. Members are not permitted to sign up other members who have yet to arrive.

Throughout the week, tee time reservations end at 4:00 pm. After this time, all play is required to check in with

the Caddie Master or his assistant to reserve a time for the first tee. We ask that members not proceed straight to

the first tee without checking in beforehand, as they may be jumping in front of golfers already in line. We thank

you in advance for adherence to these policies during our busy summer months as they will provide for a more

enjoyable experience for all of our golfing members at the Club.

When making tee times we ask that all twosomes please reserve times with other twosomes on the tee sheet,

especially on our heavier play days. This will allow for a better pace of play for all golfers, and ultimately a more

enjoyable golf experience at Waynesborough. See you at the Club soon!

Senior Golf

Senior golf started the year with a whirlwind of activity. Kick off was May 14 with ---- seniors participating in a

team scramble. Ultimately, the team of Chick Devine, John Ham, Bob Haver and Tom Mead prevailed with a

score of 63 in tight competition.

Opening day was followed by the “Week of Hope.” The Week of Hope has been an annual affair for the past two

years in which one of the golf sections at Waynesborough select a local charity and coordinate various fund-raising

activities with the other parts of Waynesborough’s golf divisions. This year, the Senior Men selected “the Fighting

Back Veterans Program” as the designated charity for the event. Through the efforts of the Nine Holers, the 18

holers, the golf committee and the pro staff, the Week of Hope raised over $6,000 for Fighting Back. I would like

to particularly thank Dick Diederich who coordinated all the activities for the event.

Participation has continued at impressive levels on the Thursday morning senior events. We have open play days

on July 2 & 16. On July 23 there is a Team Stableford event followed by an individual Stableford event on July 30.

Sign up on line or call the pro shop to sign up. If you forget to sign up in advance, be in the Men’s Grill by 8:30

for a 9:00 am shotgun start. As always, coffee and donuts are provided.

On June 11, a total of 50 seniors participated in the Senior Member-Guest. The team of Vinny Arcana and Russ

Nixon won the gross competition with a score of 75 and Bill Harral and Bill Wheeler took the net with a 59.

On July 18 and 19, the Senior Club Championship will be contested. The championship consists of 36 holes of

medal play with three divisions based on age. Each division has both a gross and a net winner. I encourage every

senior at every skill level to test their game and compete for the championships.

Week of Hope Wow! The Week of Hope charity fundraiser was wildly successful,

raising $6000 for the Fighting Back Veterans Program. The raffles of

Phillies tickets (thanks, Santander Bank), golf accessories and a set of

Taylor Made irons were all popular. A total of 33 members sponsored

holes for the duration of the Week of Hope, recognized by tee signs

with messages of their choosing. Leadership for the event came from

Gregg Hamelin, Lisa Fox, Murfee Aceto and Dick Diederich.

The golf staff was exceptional in its support. In addition to selling

chances and hole sponsorships, each golf pro contributed two half-hour

lessons to be included in the raffles. Jeff Herb also produced the hole

sponsorship signs and handled the overall administration.

We were fortunate to have a great local charity, the Fighting Back

Veterans Program, as our beneficiary. From its start in 2013 as a pilot

program, it has provided injured veterans with a one-on-one post-

rehabilitative exercise program. During 2014, they enrolled nine

participants and plan for fifteen veterans in 2015. The funds raised in

the Week of Hope will support six months of post rehabilitative

services for two of these vets recovering from life-changing injuries.

The Fighting Back Veterans' Program is deeply grateful for the generosity of the Waynesborough members and

welcomes any Waynesborough members to visit their facility at 400 East King Street in Malvern. Please contact

Women’s Golf 9-Holers

Thirteen 9-Hole Ladies weathered the cold temperatures to play in the Week of Hope Event on May 21st.

The format was Open Play, and we all enjoyed ourselves while raising $300 towards the “Fighting Back” Charity,

and even had a few raffle winners. Jodi DePhillipo won the Maui Sunglasses and Amy Duffey won a free golf

lesson with Adam!

June 4th brought another cold day, but 16 ladies came to our Annual Member Guest Event sporting their

“green” to go along with the “50 Shades of Greens” theme. The course had pictures of what each hole was in 1965,

and a “green” trivia quiz for the players to answer. After golf, we enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch prepared by

Chef David which included a “1965” dish from WCC to add to our theme commemorating WCC'S 50th

anniversary and the "greens" on our beautiful golf course. Nadine Stan-Boyens and Helen Kesaris did a great job

decorating the room with many added touches of “green” and gorgeous flowers. Everyone took home an infinity

scarf, and winners took home “green” prizes. Thanks to Carol Netter and Claire Swarr for running this successful

event. Winners were:

Mark’s Korner Ladies Interclub Season has come to a close and proved to be a very tough season with two cups moving

down. We are still in the middle of challenge season. Thanks to Joyce O'Neil and Karen Kemmerer for all their

hard work.

The Men's Interclub Season is also drawing to a close with the Seniors playing into the summer.

Waynesborough participated in the Main Line Cup at Merion, with all playing and enjoying a Saturday afternoon

on grass courts.

Saturday Socials continue to be popular and I urge all members to try this all inclusive activity with fun play and

camaraderie. We are gearing up for a busy summer with Junior clinics starting and running through August.

greased watermelon game, lollipop tree and the Big Daddy Splash. Activities begin at 1:00 pm. Food and

beverages are available by signature. All members and guests are welcome.

who knew her, will be honored and remembered. Margaret was known most for her open heart, infectious smile

and warm personality. She always glowed with a fun loving approach to life! In her honor, let’s enjoy a night of

friendship and fun.

Swimmers of all ages, including children, adults and master swimmers are invited to compete in this annual

race event. This is entirely for fun, and it proved to be a huge hit last year.

Bridge News

Thanks to Joyce Negrotti and Jackie Hammerschmidt for planning the Swiss Team event on June 11. With 60

women playing a competitive team format, WCC had a Triple Triumph placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd. ( see photo)

Our open duplicate bridge games are held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month at 12:30pm.

Beginner bridge lessons started June 23 and will continue for 8 weeks. Thanks to Demry Sibson for her

promotional flyer. We have had a great response.

In the fall, we start lessons with our new teacher/coach, Dave Legrow, who will help us expand our bridge

knowledge for the upcoming fall matches.

WCC Housekeeping Notes

Dress Code Members, their families, and guests are expected to dress in a manner consistent with a first class, private, family

oriented country club. Proper attire is generally referred to as country club casual. Members and guests not suitably

attired may be refused service and asked to change clothing prior to being served.

Management/Staff have been authorized to implement the dress code. Members and their guests must respect any

decision they render regarding dress. Please direct any questions to your Manager on Duty. It is each Member’s

responsibility to inform their guest as to the requirements of our dress code.

Please refer to the Club’s General Rules & Regulations Pocket Guide for each department’s dress code and what

constitutes “Country Club Casual” vs “Business Casual”. FYI… Country club casual means to be relaxed, laid

back and yet still sophisticated and tasteful.

Below are some examples of correct and incorrect dress for the golf course…

Cell Phones & Mobile Devices

The use of voice calls on your cell phones and mobile devices are restricted in all areas of the clubhouse except in

the locker rooms, in the main level “Bride’s Room” (next to the restrooms), and on the third floor of the clubhouse.

They are also restricted in the parking lots and may only be used inside your automobile. This is necessary to

ensure that members, their families, and their guests do not use them in a manner that disturbs others. If brought

into the clubhouse, they must be in the “vibrate” or “silent” mode. Members needing to make or receive calls

should excuse themselves to one of the permitted areas listed above. Conversations should not be disruptive to

others. PDAs are not permitted on the golf course or the tennis/paddle courts. Courtesy phones available for local

calls are located in the following areas: in the men’s and women’s locker rooms, in the men’s and women’s

lounges and in the “Bride’s Room” (next to the restrooms) on the main level. Please make sure that you and your

guests adhere to this policy. It is permissible to check and/or send email or text messages anywhere in the

clubhouse from your mobile device…this only refers to non-verbal communication.

The Membership Office is pleased to announce that as we begin the second half of 2015, we have welcomed 25

New Members to the WCC family! We are also pleased to say that we have several more candidates in the

Admissions Process, and our pipeline of interested candidates is very healthy.

We would like to thank all of the sponsors, seconders and other supporters who have been excited about sharing

their club and referring their friends, family and/or colleagues to Waynesborough.

I would like to remind you that with our revised Legacy program, now is the time for your child and their family to

become members of Waynesborough.

Our Certificate Program is working well with encouraging our sponsors to invite their candidates to the club to

meet other members and get acquainted with our club culture. This eases the transition for when the candidate(s)

become WCC members.

For information on how to sponsor a candidate, including a Legacy, and to request an application to begin the

Admissions Process and acquire the incentive certificates, we encourage you to contact Denise DiTanna

As a friendly reminder, our Admissions Process is not a quick and speedy process. It takes time to gather the

required number of supporters to write letters on behalf of the candidates. The Admissions Committee takes the

time to do due diligence on each candidate family prior to the candidates getting posted for the mandatory

minimum of 30 days, therefore, if you have a candidate who is considering membership, please encourage them to

begin the process now…especially if they are fairly new to the area. If they begin now and into the Fall, they will

thank you for it when they are playing the Annual Pebble Beach Indoor Golf Weekend in January and/or sitting at

the pool and picnic on Memorial Day weekend, 2016.

Remediation & Facilities Master Plan The Waynesborough clubhouse water infiltration remediation project is moving forward. The Remediation

Committee is working closely with TBS, our building envelope engineer, to document the repair work. The leaks

have been identified, detailed construction drawings showing the work necessary to fix the leaks are complete and

a detailed bid package has been delivered to the prospective contractors. The timeline for the bid reviews,

awarding the contract, and construction schedule is being finalized. At this point it looks like the work could begin

by August 1.

The Waynesborough Facilities Master Plan process is also moving forward. The FMP Committee has selected

Chambers USA, a leading consultant in country club facilities planning based in Baltimore, to lead us in the

process. The objective of the plan is to study a wide variety of facility expansion, improvement or replacement

options to serve our Members needs for the future. In early June, Chambers joined members of the FMP

Committee, the Board and the management team in an exhaustive tour of the buildings and grounds of the entire

Club. This, along with the Strategic Plan, formed the basis for Chambers’ development of options to be considered

as we look to meet the needs of current and future Waynesborough Members. Chambers will be reaching out to

survey Members and to schedule focus groups for soliciting input and ideas. From this work, Chambers and the

FMP Committee, along with the Board, will develop a comprehensive plan for review by the full membership.

Our goal is to reach this milestone in the fall, with final approval by the end of the year. More detailed information

on the remediation project and the master plan will be sent to the membership in the coming weeks.

From the 50th Anniversary Committee A Brief History of the Pool (Excerpted from commemorative book)

When Waynesborough opened in 1965, the

property’s original farmhouse, called the Fox

House, served as the temporary clubhouse,

golf pro shop, and office. Without a

clubhouse on the property, the new five-lane,

heated pool became the “hub” for all social

activities that year and the basis for many

interesting stories for the archives. Founder

CT Alexander remembers one night during an

evening swim, a young girl trembling in the

dark up on the high dive, too scared to jump.

Club President Tom Cameron climbed up to

help, but with no lights, he didn’t realize until

he was at the top how high the board actually

was. “He was probably just as scared as she

was but he had to jump anyway” recalls

Alexander. Another Founding member Jack May often joined the lifeguards outside the Fox House grilling steaks

to be served on the lawn. These barbecues were so much fun they became regular Friday night buffets by the end

of the club’s first summer. Rumor has it that a Gin and Tonic was less than $1.00 (including service charge)!

Stories involving G&T’s have upped the ante in the archives!

The original objectives of the pool committee were “To build esprit de corps in keeping with the family club

tradition of Waynesborough and to continue to develop a swim team for future years.” Every member, eighteen

and under who could swim, was encouraged to participate in this wonderful team program. In 1966 the club joined

the Chester County Country Club Swimming Association and competed against other local clubs. By the 1970’s

the swim team had become very popular when there were over 100 children on the team. Current Pool Director

Brian Kline has been involved in the Waynesborough swim program since 1998 and under his thoughtful

leadership, the swim team has experienced tremendous success with multiple Division Championships during his

tenure.

A new pool complex was completed in 2001 with a six-lane pool that was better suited to accommodate the

number of member users and competitive swimming events. Now in 2015, the pool facility continues to offer

relaxing, enjoyable family activities that the Founders envisioned 50 years ago!

Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

This cabernet has aromas of rich, dark fruits and baking spices on the nose, which yield

fresh plum and blackberry fruit, violet, dried fig, vanilla bean and Chinese Five-Spice.

The wine is juicy with plum and blackberry flavors prominent, layered with smoky and

sappy maple wood, roasted almonds and hazelnuts that finishes long with fine, firm

tannins.

Josh Cellars Chardonnay

This chardonnay has aromas of tropical fruits and citrus married with beautifully

harmonious oak notes. A delightful harmony of fresh yellow and white stone fruits

lingers on the palate and finishes with fresh and clean acidity.
