*Swap Meet 2013: Jubilee Oval defmitely booked as are extra portable toilets, also extra skip bins on site and the barricades will be put in place early Sunday moming.2 food outlets confirmed, one with coffee/tea, other food outlets, Churros, and Icecream van confirmed. Drinks as in Cool drinks and Water with Club Members, using a hired mobile coolroom for storage, and the mobile quad bike. The Lions Club of Northam will once again look after the gates, and have been advised that as per last year we will be using the Chidlow Street Gate for vehicular/Public entry and a walk in (no vehicles) at the new entrance in Peel Terrace. Also that the Site fee is now $10ea and Public entry$3 ea, kids free same as last year. Left to do- re check all in place with Colin and Heather, including availability of keys & top keys.

*Cars for Wedding: Another approach has been made for paid/donation use of cars for a wedding. The answer is ' no ', we carmot contravene our rules. It would also be unwise for fully licenced vehicles to be used in this way, due to Charter/Hire Companies in the business.

*Corrigin, Wundowie & Swan Hill HAEF: No details or paperwork to hand, Secretary to follow up.

*Events: Notice and details of events need to be with us 1J. lot earlier than they have been. Our Newsletter is our medium of advertising events to our Members, this in tum allows the Members to organise their plans of attendance at events.

*West Australian: re an Ad in the newspaper for SwapMeet. Not needed as we have sufficient Ads already.

*Chinese Food Stall: After discussion and due to our having raised the number of food stalls for this year, in particular to locals, it was decided not to have a Chinese Food stall this year. Perhaps keep in mind for next year, if needed.

*Harley Motorcycle: Club motorcycle due for licence renewal. After discussion re little or no use of the Harley on the road - Moved: Jeff Mills .. Seconded: Barry Bristow-Stagg.. That the Harley licence be stopped and the plates be handed in. Carried

*Name Badges: Secretary advised that a few orders are ready for Name Badges. With only a couple, postage is a killer, so if more Members want to get a name badge, now is the time. Postage is the reason the badges have gone up in price. An ad needs to go in the next Newsletter.

*Gourmet Food & Wine Festival: It was noted in th~ !opal newspaper that the Shire intends to allow a discount on the hire of the Rec Centre for this event in June. As these people are not local it is hard to understand why! There are many local groups/people who constantly use the Town facilities, with no discount, in fact fees seem to keep rising. Our Club in particular has been using 1 or 2 of the Ovals for the pa~t 20 years just for the SwapMeet. To be looked into.

*Lease for Clubrooms: Nothing has been advised or updated with the Lease for several weeks, in fact months. After checking through the draft, last known re Lease was that it was in the hands of Lawyers/ Government Depts to check out/complete. Stan to check again with the Shire.

*SwapMeet: Question re the road signs for the SwapMeet. These need to be out 3 weeks before the event. In hand.

Antilag Motorsport, a local car club heavily involved in motorsport of all kinds here in Perth, is holding an event not seen in Perth before.

Like the Temora 1000 & Snowy Mountains 1000 over east, the aptly named "Racewars" pits some of the fastest street/track/drag cars in Perth against each other over a 1000m piece of tarmac.

Held at the Wyalkatchem Airstrip 192kms north east of Perth, this 2 day event is a time trial based event which tests the top end speed of your vehicle over a 1000m distance as well as lf4 mile and 1/8 mile racing. Multiple categories will award those who perform best but most importantly for you all, Shannons is putting up cash prizes for the fastest cars in both a Pre 80s and Pre 60s category. No holds barred with what you can enter, as long as it passes scrutineering. Cars exceeding 1 OOOhp are already set to tear it up at Wyalkatchem as well as a range of late model exotics from Ferrari, Lamborghini, BMW & Porsche. Even if you don' t enter a vehicle, this may well be an event you would like to see so spectators are welcomed.

Logging Monster Trees Before chainsaws were invented, the logging industry in the United States & Canada was a seriously challenging occupation and we are only talking about 125 years ago. In the Pacific Northwest there were forests full of monster trees and cutting them down was done by hand.

Look at the length of the two-man hand saw and heavy duty axes they used to drop these tremendous trees. It is almost inconceivable to think of cutting a tree this size with a hand saw. The work required very strong men (and horses) working long days for minimal pay. Could you imagine

--------Maneuvering the logs down the mountain to the train was a complex job. No research on this, but many men probably lost their lives doing this dangerous work. One slip and a hunk of wood as big as a hotel is rolling your way! The other question that begs an answer is how did they get those logs onto the flatbeds of that train?

Hollowed out logs became the company's mobile office. Can you imagine stacking such logs to build a log home? Two courses would produce a 30' ceiling. Maybe that's why it was easier to hollow out a tree. A long time before anyone ever thought of a "mobile home or RV" hollowed out logs were also used to house and feed the logging crews. We are accustomed to our modem conveniences like electricity and gasoline powered chainsaws, and it is always such a mind-boggling experience to see h9w ~uch monumental tasks were performed before these conveniences appeared on the scene.
