TRANSCRIPT
From the Principal Dear Parents
There’s a lot of uncertainty about the knowledge and competencies that will be truly
useful for today’s students in tomorrow’s world. But some fundamental things will remain.
There will sll be an Internet. This means that being able to make sense of an overwhelming
amount of informaon is a crucial skill.
People will sll be trying to sell us things and ideas. To evaluate these sales pitches, students will need an understanding
of logic, reasoning, argument, and persuasive techniques
Listening will sll be important. This means that all students will need to be media literate so they can listen well to
different kinds of media.
People will sll be speaking. Speaking skills will be vital in a world where the channels for verbal communicaon will
connue to grow. “Four Predicons for Students’ Tomorrows” by Erik Palmer in Educaonal Leadership, March 2016
In preparaon for coping with today’s world students and parents should be aware that the
Secondary Students Semester One assessment period (Exams) will take place Monday 30th
May, Tuesday 31st May and Wednesday 1st June.
Helpful Tips for Preparation ⇒ Set up a dedicated study space and help them keep books and notes dy and organised.
⇒ Provide a steady supply of healthy snacks and drinks of water. The brain works be,er!
⇒ Plan a short break between chunks of study, to refresh both the brain and the body.
⇒ Help map out a study programme that leads up sensibly to each subject exam.
⇒ Encourage the use of revision methods they have been taught like mind maps, brief notes, pictures, spider
diagrams, self-tesng. Just reading things through doesn't usually work. The more they process informaon,
the more likely it is to sck.
⇒ Television, devices and loud music do not help
revision, but quiet background music might.
⇒ Working with a friend can help by le5ng them
test each other and talk about the work. Just
check they stay focused on study.
⇒ Find out what teachers have recommended for
study as different subjects may take different
approaches.
⇒ Encourage them to explain something to you.
If you can understand their explanaon, then
they will be able to produce a good answer in
the exam.
⇒ Stay posive and reassuring to build their
confidence and calm any nerves.
Kind regards to you all,
Rod Li,le PRINCIPAL

Hot Books! Promoting Reading……..
The book I am reading is called “Meet Rose”
by Sherry Clark. It is about a girl who lived
in the early 1900’s. She wants to be an
adventurer.
Chloe Turnbull Yr 3/4R
My book is called “Billionaire Boy’ by David
Walliams. Joe Spud is the main character
who is the richest boy in the
world. It is a brilliant book!
Abbey Crampton Yr
3/4R
I’m reading “The 30-Storey
Treehouse’ by Andy Griffiths.
It is a very funny book
because Professor Studipo
un-invents things.
Karin Rezkalla Yr 3/4R
My book is ‘Demon Denst’
by David Walliams. It is an
hilarious book about an evil
denst who tries to steal
kids’s teeth.
It is very imaginave.
Harry Sanbrook Yr 3/4R
The book I am reading is Bart
Simpson’s Treehouse of
Horror. It is an easy read and
it is funny. I like it because it is in
comic style.
