    SunVTS Quick Reference

    Starting the SunVTS Software

    Follow these steps to start SunVTS.

    w To Start SunVTS

    1. Become superuser (root) and change directories to the SunVTS bin directory(/opt/SUNWvts/bin by default).

    2. If you are testing a local system type the following:

    3. If you are testing a remote machine that is running the SunVTS kernel, type thefollowing:

    Replace remote_hostname with the hostname of the remote machine.

    # ./sunvts

    # ./sunvts -h remote_hostname

    Space bar Toggles (enables/disables) a choice

    Arrow Keys Moves the cursor in a selected panel

    Escape Discards a pop-up menu or window

    Control-F Scrolls forward in option windows

    Control-B Scrolls backward in option windows

    Control-X Quits the TTY Interface, but leaves the SunVTS kernel running on the testmachine

    The view menu has the following options:

    Reports Menu

    The Reports menu contains the System Configuration menu which displays or printsSystem Configuration. It displays, prints, or removes log file information.

    DSched Menu

    The DSched menu provides access to the SunVTS Deterministic Scheduler asfollows:

    s Start DSstarts the Deterministic Scheduler feature and displays theDeterministic Scheduler dialog box.

    s Show DSdisplays the Deterministic Scheduler dialog box after you quit the DS

    UI.

    s Quit Optionsprovides access to the following quit options:

    s Quit DS UI onlyquits the Deterministic Scheduler dialog box and leaves theDeterministic Scheduler running.

    s Quit DSquits the Deterministic Scheduler dialog box and stops theDeterministic Scheduler.

    Help Menu

    The Help menu provides access to the SunVTS version that is running and to a table

    that lists which versions of SunVTS run on the Solaris operating environmentreleases.

    Quick Access Buttonss Start: Starts enabled tests

    s Stop: Stops active tests

    s Reset: Resets pass and error counts to zero; pauses tests

    s Host: Connects to a machine running SunVTS

    s Log: Displays or prints log files

    s Meter: Displays system performance meter

    s Quit: Quits only the SunVTS user interface

    Status Panel

    The system status panel displays the following:

    s Host name being tested

    s Model being tested

    s Testing status

    s

    System passess Cumulative errors

    s Elapsed test time

    System Map

    You can view devices in the System map as follows:s Logical Mappingorganizes the devices, according to function, into groups.

    s Physical Mappingorganizes the devices according to their exact location on thesystem.

    Note Use the View-->Open System Map command to expand collapsed groups inthe system map.

    The system map also provides access to the test options for each group and device,and displays the results of device testing:

    s Asteriskindicates a device is currently being tested.

    s Blackindicates the device is not tested, or the first pass is not complete.s Greenindicates at least one test completed with no errors detected.

    s Redindicates at least one error was detected.

    Select Devices

    With the Select Devices menu you can select the following:

    s Defaultselects the SunVTS default set of devices

    s Nonedeselects all devices

    s Allselects all devices

    s Interventionrequired before you can select tests that require special devicepreparation.

    Select Test Mode

    With the Select Mode option you can select the following:

    s Connection test modeprovides a low-stress, quick testing of the availability andconnectivity of selected devices.

    s Functional test modeprovides more robust testing of your system and devices

    as compared with connection test mode.s Auto Config test modeopens the Automatic Configuration dialog box which

    provides access to the Auto Config feature. This feature automatically assigns testoptions.

    Test Message Panel

    Test messages are displayed in the SunVTS console window, which displays errorsand status.

    Notify Optionss Send EmailWhen selected, sends testing status messages to you through email

    s Log PeriodIndicates time, in minutes, between testing status email messages

    Schedule Optionss Auto StartBegins testing when SunVTS is started; used with the Options Files

    s Single PassRuns only one pass of each selected test

    s System ConcurrencySpecifies the number of tests you want to run concurrently

    s Group ConcurrencySpecifies the number of test groups you want to runconcurrently

    Test Execution Options

    s StressIncreases test performance; only available for some tests

    s VerboseDisplays verbose test messages in the SunVTS Console window

    s Core FileWhen disabled, SunVTS sends messages instead of creating a core file

    s Run On ErrorContinues testing until the maximum error number is reached forthe system; each test can report up to three error messages per failure

    s Max PassesSpecifies maximum number of passes a test can be run

    s Max ErrorsSets maximum number of errors a test will allow before stopping (0means infinite)

    Advanced Options

    s System OverrideChanges all test and group system options to match theoptions on this window (enabled by default)

    s Group OverrideOverrides any test system options in favor of the group optionson this window, unless System Override is enabled

    s Group LockProtects test group options from being changed

    s Test LockProtects the test system options from being changed in this window,unless Group Override or System Override is enabled

    Option Filess Options File Load/Store/RemoveDisplays file name field where you can enter
